Man, thanks so much for taking the time to help me out kcat. I'm amazed at some of the real support some of us give each other, it really makes a huge difference in how I feel about my work, I'm not so alone.
All I can say is computers, especially running when DAW's are weird. I snooped all over my hard drive, found all the files and authorizations. It could be any or all of my iLok plugs causing problems, but if it was a plug, it was most likely, the FG-X, since it's the last 32 bit holdout. I could have dumped every iLok plug, reinstalled them, and heaven knows how that might have gone.
My instincts were it just didn't make sense. I tried all sorts of things, but then had an idea. When I first turned on the computer, iLok lit up, turned off, lit up again, then stayed off. I figured my iLok wasn't defective, because it did light up. When I start up, my iLok is of course in the USB port, so I thought maybe it might work if I took the iLok out, reboot, open Logic, then when the Slate prompt says "no iLok", I inserted the iLok, and it worked, Logic opened, but it was frozen.
I had one last idea, I haven't emptied my trash in ages. I had lost some work, projects with tons of automation, and figured if I went through them one at a time, I could get them back. I've grown as a mixer and thought maybe I should just let it go, and move on, so I deleted the trash. It had 54,000 items to delete, yikes!
I opened Logic with no iLok, inserted iLok when prompted, and it worked !!
I looked at some old mixes, messed around, just to see if it was ok, saved and the opened some new projects, and it seems like I'm good to go now.
That was a huge relief. I was going to bring my computer to Apple tomorrow, and do the uninstall/install with their Pro tech guys, but now, I'm going to the beach, I need a break, I have a long week ahead of me.
Big WHEW !
