Yes and those who bought in the past paid full retail for each tbolt card: a grand Usd if you had multiple apollos so that why i suggested the 1-2 custom plug offer so they get opportunity for reasonable redress and no ones asking for a freebie as we all bought knowing the conditions at the time.

True - there is ZERO overhead on giving away a few free plugs for a month.

I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place regarding the Thunderbolt card. It makes no sense at all that a Solo or Twin are only a couple hundred more dollars than the card alone. Anything more than $200 is egregious, and I feel it really should be less than $150 to feel fair to those of us who've contributed greatly to the Apollo's success.
Great idea and letter kcat.

True - there is ZERO overhead on giving away a few free plugs for a month. I agree there is little overhead as once in production you are simply recouping sunk costs against the investment and normal operating expenses. The custom bundles are not free. In effect you pay $133 usd but get to pick any plug. This is essentially the same surprise offer you get when you register your apollo so you can be getting plugs with a roughly 60% discount. I saw this as a good compromise position !

All ADAT channels able to be accessed is HUGE!! Nothing else like it. WOW. This gesture right here is what I expressed to BP when the Apollo first came out. It's the complete opposite of the selfishness that Avid shows. UA has once and for all won me over with this move. Completely opening up it's platform to cooperate with other companies says a lot about the intension of this company. Classy moves.

Why don't they just come up with a daw?

Why don't they just come up with a daw? That would be excellent. A complete solution from one end to the other. Great idea.

It really wouldn't be that big a leap from where they are now.

Why don't they just come up with a daw? Then it really would be the same as the old PTHD TDM system, just modernized.

Why don't they just come up with a daw? Then it really would be the same as the old PTHD TDM system, just modernized. Exactly...but I'm already bought in...so it's ok Seriously, though, UAD is nothing more than software tied to a hardware dongle - so why not make it the new PT TDM? The problem started when PT was no longer on the cutting edge of it's market - while that can still be argued for the software, I think we can all agree that there are better hardware options available at lower prices than Avid. Right now, UA is fairly priced and is on the cutting edge of the technology. If they offered a DAW that didn't REQUIRE me to use it - but was a better option - I would consider it.

After the weekend with NAMM, I must say that I am totally floored by "UA Apollo Expanded". So innovative and easy. Now I must fix the Thunderbolt and some Apollo quad to. Then just take in the great big band in the studio and rock with console 2
Lovely Times'!

The whole flex driver is probably the greatest part of this. I always hated having to try and figure out what my i/o was whenever I would update something or make a change in my core audio device, it would completely throw off my settings. Now that I can pick and choose which i/o to have in PT, and then it be hard named into the driver will make things much better, and also allows a lot of expansion. I need to check into PT 12 and see if it allows more than just a total of 32 i/o. I might consider upgrading if they've doubled it, that would be great. At that point I could see buying a Apollo 16.
I bet if UAD did design a DAW it would be a damn good one too, they are so close, I think that could be their next step, and it would have the ability to become the new industry standard IMO, basically everyone could have a PT HD type rig with UAD incorporated. Maybe this time next year we are getting giddy over that announcement. Also, I'd like to see UAD find a way to license more plugin devs to run on their host, if that combination were to all occur I think you could kiss PT goodbye.

uAD DAW
Ya I have been wondering about this too: seems like a very logical thing for UA to do.
Gannon who works for UA was with Avid and knows PT cold, he troubleshoots all kinds of questions at ua forum.
This gives me real confidence around the working knowledge that is probably typical of ua employees.
I'd be down for a UA DAW 4 sure !
