Of course the Amphions are decades more advanced in design, and I'm well aware of the pitfalls of listening to speakers in a convention center. Still, I was an audiophile since I was 16 years old have had extensive experience with every level of speaker you can imagine over decades. I no longer bother with audiophile concerns, but the experience has served me well as I translate that experience into home recording. Having mixed and broadcasted at least 200 radio and TV commercials, worked on six or seven albums, and God knows how many demos using the NS – 10's, it's fair to say I know them well. In my previous post I said it's probably just me, but there was some kind a resemblance between the Amphions and the NS-10's to me, so no matter how minor, I would look elsewhere for monitoring. At that price point there are a number of very good choices.

And I'm able to disagree with your assessment, right?

I think our appreciation of monitors is personal:just audition and use what works for you.

And I'm able to disagree with your assessment, right? Of course John. You're a much better reference then me since you own them. I might think differently if I was in a studio listening to them. They just kicked in some kind of weird gut memory of NS-10's to me, heaven knows why.

I'll say it again ALL SPEAKERS SUCK ITS HOW THEY SUCK and YOU LISTEN THROUGH SPEAKERS NOT TO SPEAKERS! I get what people like about the Amphions, they fall in the Genelec school sound wise, as do my near fields Quested F11a's. The Amphions are not my cup of Chai, but then neither are NS10's ! My Ideal in the studio is more ATC/ Meyers / PMC / TAD. Quested is in the ball park and I have the H308's to provide more resution ! Given a chance I might grab the little vented Amiphions. But the Bargain that is SVARTS little box with a little work is very useable, Chris wish you would do a 3 way design!

Maybe next year I can do one. I'd love for you to hear these 2 ways now that I fixed those issues they had. From what you said when we listened to them, and to what they are now, I bet you'd like them a lot!

OK - doing some mastering on a project (to the best of my knowledge and limited expertise ) and I'm finding out that these are on the brighter side on top. I'm having to mix a little bright for my tastes to achieve the proper mix everywhere else. Just thought I would update. Who knows, maybe a better amp would fix things.

Just re read thread so some thoughts as I am burning in my new one 18 amphion. You may recall I demoed them and one 15 for 3 weeks and have used an adcam 545 modded by Jim throughout. During the demo I used the amphion fancy $350 usd cables, now I made 2 7 foot leads from new 12awg oxygen free copper tinned the ends for the amp and gold banana screw ons at other end. Am using iso acoustic stands, some on other site say the gel pads are better First zero buyer's remorse although they are a stretch, am really appreciating them. I do like their tightness with the passive radiator and the clarity throughout and in particular in the low mids and bass, but I say that with a grain of salt as I know my 11 foot width for walls is problematic. But the amphion seem well controlled with their design and waveguide and have a very full sound envelope and yet seem not so affected by the room. I play a lot of acoustic guitar and find I really appreciate the titanium tweeter and waveguide. The crossover is down at 1600 a little lower than usual but I think contributes to the openess and clarity of the mid range in the amphion and the bass clarity as the smallish woofer is more focussed on 1600 and below. For me an intriguing combination of design elements. I looked into the diy idea very extensively and you can apparently get the same seas woofers from madisound but nothing else, not the custom titanium tweeter, not the actual crossovers not the actual passive radiator and Seas will not sell these to you either ( I checked . I bet you could buy similar components and if you are very good with crossover design get a monitor you will like but I doubt it will be exactly the experience of a well burned in one 18. If you haven't experienced it, it is hard to describe the sound envelop of these monitors : its detailed nuanced spaciousness, 3 dimensionality and texture, ( I understand I am saying that in my personal context :in my room), but I have had many name brand monitors here so I am also speaking comparatively too. If you are in the market, I would certainly recommend that you demo and make up your own mind: very pleased here and thx to Johnken for answering a number of questions over the last while ! I also had great customer service from Anssi and David Bryce and the cdn rep Andy; very professional and concerned.

Congratulations Kcat ! Now you'l know what's really going on with your mixes. That can be a blessing and a curse though, you may find you want to redo everything :-)

Wouldn't be ironic to pass away finalizing your remix of the "Six Feet Under" soundtrack ?
