I've been listening to Hotel California (the whole album) here lately, and now I'm obsessed with dry drums. Considering buying these for some home experimentation. Anyone used them? www.xlnaudio.com/products/adpak/vintage_dry

Maybe you can do similar with some of the presets from the Fairfax Vol2 and get more options for more modern sounds as well? Sorry, only heard the fairfax1 in action right now....

The Dry Pack totally has that wallet on the snare and those cardboard sounding toms...Not sure FF2 could do that. Though - I love FF2

Yep. The "vintage dry" sounds alot like the Hotel California 70's sound. Had to laugh when i read how they treated the drumkit "oldskool", like when i went first time into a studio. Pillow, newspaper,... "dry it to death" as we said back in the days...wasn't very modern in the late 80s/beginning 90s, hehe, and our drummer threatened us to leave the band if we continue to dampen everything. LOL.

Don't know how they are in action yet but I just bought them! I have the Fairfax bundle and Indie and I think these are going to be my favorites (though I do love FF2) was drawn to the demo and think they'll provide a real departure from the super over-processed SSD4 drums. Though I do suppose in their own, totally different way, they too are over-processed True all SSD Samples do sound mixed for a certain stile. When I bought them first I liked them but if you do something different with them its not the right tool. I always thought Steven should provide also unprocessed samples. But those OLD SCHOOL Drums here by XLN do sound not bad. Please tell us if you can get this alive drum sound like in the demos??

I just bought the Producer Pack from JRR for $120, which gives me 3 AD Packs. Any recommendations? I'm thinking Fairfax I & II as well as the Vintage Dry.

Haven't tried the Vintage Dry yet but I strongly recommend Fairfax 1&2. I'm having a blast using these, worlds better for the type of music I'm doing right now (natural, indie classic rock/folkish Americana?) than my SSD Platinum samples. The most realistic fake drums I've used but I haven't tried many!

I thought the FF2 covered all the ground that FF1 did, but better...

In the dry drum day [70's,] drummers in the studio typically would put a wallet on the rim of snare to damp the ring of the top head.
A more subtle version was a big cookie sized piece of discarded kick drum head, gaffer taped on one edge like a hinge around the edge of the snare, so that a stick hit would lift the piece off the snare drum, but it would then land on the snare head and damp the ring.

I have done the wallet thing, and often use cut up pieces of drum head, but never the hinge thing...that's cool and I am gonna try it tomorrow!! thanks donr good tip cheers Wiz

Can I play these with an electronic kit the way I do with the EZDrummer stuff? From quick start manual: " If you have an electronic drum kit hooked up to your computer and host software, you can use it to trigger the sounds in AD2. Open the Map Preset menu on the BEATS page and select your electronic drum kit if it is listed there. After that it should just be a matter of record enabling the Addictive Drums 2 track in your DAW host and start banging! If you electronic drum kit is not listed in the Map Preset menu – try the GM Map Preset. It works with most electronic drum kits."

Hotel California-Perhaps my favorite guitar album of all time as well.
As for drums, listen to any of the Timothy B Schmit Eagles songs. Henley either uses a tom where the snare would be or uses a very low tuned snare. So you've got the contrast of Schmit's high voice with that lower tone drum. Those guys are masters of contrast.
Thanks for the link to these dry drums. Sound great!

I wish I could hear some samples form someone who bought the dry drums. I still can not believe that they do sound that liveley like in the sound demos of XLN.
If its true I am sold and will buy the Producer-Pack!!

I'll try and post some presets with bad playing Always interesting to me is the dynamic range on the snare. How low can you get? Is getting louder belivable or does it has level jumps? How does the timbre changes from a soft hit to a sudden hard one. Does the harmonic structure changes etc IMO thats the point where I still can identify fake drums.
