Three 2520 style opamps, hypothetically of course. It looks like a 525 has 3 2520's too. Maybe a 525/1176 sort of hybrid could hypothetically be in the works.

Sorry to disappoint but it is FET based. I'm not disappointed, hell I love FET comps I can't wait for this!

Personally I wouldn't feel the need to monkey with any idea the high priest of mojo comes up with. If it sounds good to him I'd just about bet the ranch that it would to me as well... I simply can't see this as anything other than a home run...me either, i'm definitely one of J's biggest fans 8) I will immediately order at least 4 of these when he's ready, I use his pre's and eq's almost exclusively! I'm just pointing out that it may be possible with little effort to add versatility with variable or diy changeable SC filter points(not unlike swapping op amps). It comes in very, very handy on drums ime. I totally like the 220 filter point he chose if it is to remain fixed, and no way is fixed even close to being a deal breaker, i already believe this is the 500 series compressor that i've been dreaming about, and i haven't even heard it yet lol. After some thought I see your point...one if the things I love about my soundskulptor fet compressor is the 2:1 ratio...it's made it much more versatile to me as that ratio doesn't feel as "grabby" as the typical fet comp...always room for fine tuning to make a box work best for our individual needs...

The input is a 2520 as balanced receiver so no tranny there however, I have a sweet little 2623-1 on the output.

I am jumping the gun a little as I don't like to talk about things prematurely these days but......theoretically, if I were working on a compressor, it would look something like this..... WOW Jeff! But I and others want to know where's the modular console!

But I and others want to know where's the modular console! Yes indeed -- and for me it's much easier to envision the CAPI console now that I can picture a row of compressors across it just makes the prospect of the console even more tantalizing.

it does, but once this comes out, i'm gonna go for an 11x3 channel strips with Vp 28's, Lc53's, 553f's, and the "hypo" compressors, amazing tracking console(just about), then i'll use my oh so bad arse JW modded delta(very ssl except better imo 8) for mixdown, alls good in the neighborhood 8)

I'm really glad to watch the CAPI product line grow. I know Jeff has got to have a lot of cool stuff cooking, these little hints are so tantalizing. A compressor is a great idea. Some kind of mixing solution might be the ultimate thing! I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I don't want to put words in J's mouth, but i think he recognizes as far as the CAPI mixer is concerned, we all say how bad we want it, and it's true, but it WONT be cheap, and people will have to take out the equivalent of a car loan to pull it off, at least if they want it loaded up with units, and thats not an easy purchase.

that is a good point, dang it!! I guess it's a big ask, indeed. maybe an API style summing mixer would be less extravagantly expensive to pull off.

Very true, but at least with the modular approach, people could buy it piece by piece. I'm sure I couldn't afford more than 8ish channels to start with, after which I'd immediately start saving for another 8... And another 8.... And another 8....

I guess I'm thinking "modular" on a more piece by piece level. i.e. $5k might not buy me all the parts for a full working console, but it will surely buy me enough to keep me busy building for a few months until I can invest some more into the project.

I'm just thinking that the frame alone will run $10k. Then pres, eq's, comps etc will all be extra. I could be totally off base though.

Metalwork isn't cheap, but based on the modular products CAPI already sells... I can't imagine it will be anywhere near $10 k for just the metalwork frame. classicapi.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=137_141_179_180&products_id=363But surely for something as fully formed as the ark, we'd be talking a big investment. I don't want to go too far down the rabbit hole of speculation... Suffice it to say, we all agree it's not going to be for everyone (or everyone's budget). It makes a lot of sense for Jeff to completely flesh out his product line before offering a big expensive niche item.

the ark looks pretty cool, but the signal routing and summing section in jeffs rig would be insane sounding, his "more is more" philosophy would bring this home for me personally. I'm pretty sure jeff drew up plans for 1,2, and 3 500 slot rigs, I think that's what i saw, when you add up all the op amps and stuff, it would be a good sized price tag, BUT it's also gonna be diy, which dramatically drops the price, Jeff sells VP28's for $279 last time i checked, if anyone can bring this into reality, it would be our master of mojo JS!

Order cancelled.... kidding, but yeah, Jeff's pricing is pretty much unbeatable in the diy world. Right now my cart has 2 missing links, 2 vp28s, and a second 500 rack. I gotta sell some stuff first so my wife doesn't put my head on a pike (we watch game of thrones, so I'm kinda scared).
