Finally after starting with a Tascam Porta 1 at 18 years old I'm finally completely happy with my rig. I walk into my studio space and there's nothing I want to add - everything I need and want is there to hand. It's only taken me 43 years Has anyone one else got to this point - the end of GAS! ??

Yeah, I got there about a year ago...I now I want another rack full of gear and about 6 more, really expensive, microphones! lol. Enjoy the end of Gas while it lasts. We'll be waiting patiently for you to return to the fold

Awesome to hear that you're completely happy with your setup.
Still, I predict it will return in some form or another.. Haha! We're human, and constantly looking at ways to improve is part of what drives us, I think.

I thought you were gonna say you went full circle back to Porta 01. It does cross my mind sometimes, how simple it was. For me it’s the 414 or 424 cassettes
Long Live GAS!

I've felt that way at times, and was forced to feel that way due to finance.
I honestly COULD probably never buy anything but 'replaceables' for the rest of my life.
but I probably won't.

Yeah, I kinda know that feeling. Guitar and amp wise I've actually been in the post GAS state for years, and it hasn’t really returned. Studio wise I think the mic locker will always be empty no matter what you add there. The black hole of my studio. So I figure a post GAS state will never really be possible when it comes to studio for me. Sorry.

It's probably nice to have that feeling, even if only for a day.. To make it stick you'll probably have to disconnect your phone and internet, discontinue any other media related to recording, etc. I don't think anything in my studio really feels "permanent" or will ever feel that way. But maybe.

That's a point I recently made to my wife. I need to build up some money in a pot - so that when I semi-retire as a professional musician (I'll never completely stop working) I'm able to afford repairs and replacements for my gear. Not to mention the yearly insurance bill !!

I have reached the end of GAS for guitars and amps for the most part, but the studio is another hungry beast. I have a weakness for microphones as well. New mic's are like a boob job for my studio. Something I don't need but really enjoy playing with. I would love to upgrade my converters and monitors and add a few more outboard devices but for me this is a hobby mostly. I retired from the professional musician thing many years ago but still love doing it. I can't justify spending $5k-ish on the converter I would want and then the ____ and ____ and ____ etc.

I am REALLY fulfilled by what I can do in my studio. The last major purchases will be delivered in a few weeks. 9 years buying at around $2k to 10k a month to bring everything in, learn it, sell if I wasn’t satisfied. I had tremendous discretionary cash flow but a recent voluntary retirement acceptance is among the best things I ever did, I love it!
I would not have expected the last items to have made such a massive difference in my satisfaction and capabilities: Electric & Company EC3 and EC5B and a Rupert Neve 5060.

Awesome. I also started on a Porta 1. I suppose I still have GAS, but realistically I am just doing this to feed my own ego. I have a lot of good stuff. I feel fortunate to have it.
Cheers, Geoff

This is a completely different design, it is not inspired by an LA-2A in any way: www.littlelabs.com/products/ll2a
