Transformer boxes. But you need channels open on your converter, they’ve totally made mixing for me way more fun and effective. Soft clipping/slight distortion adding up and cascading, it’s surprising how much it’s made other methods like compression and eq less needed

ART Dual Limiter. I like mine again. Almost sounds tubey on vocals.

Sexy & cheap? You can get an Audi 2008 A5 3.0 for 5 grands in Lithuania. That's like A LOT of sexy for one man to handle.

How about one of the new Samar sdcs. Not sure about ubiquitous but I think sexy and cheap.

Dbx 500 series. 560a and there’s the de-esser and eq too. Fmr pbc-6a is balanced unlike the RNC. RNC 500 is balanced. Used Speck EQ Art VLA or other art products. Kush, Little Labs, or Drawmer whatever. Used Aphex 651 or 661. 661 on vocals. There’s also the easy rider, the channel strip, the eq etc. all cheap. All good. Rip Aphex.

DBX 160X? Perhaps too much to fly under the radar, but I’d adore a Standard Audio Level-Or i've got 13 of the 160xt's with the jensen trannys in em, my favorite hard knee compression on earth, adds the badass to badass drums, can pickem up for about $150-$200 these days

Maybe the FMR compressor? Cheers, Geoff Not quite sexy enough... Little Labs LL2A compressor is a little sexier with the Nixie tube.

Empirical Labs derresser You can usually find them used under $400
I almost only use it in hf limiter mode, gives everything a "record" feel It's also the classiest de-esser I've used and easy to dial in
I'll eventually add a second one

ART Dual Limiter. I like mine again. Almost sounds tubey on vocals. These look interesting! Seems they are largely unavailable in northern europe at this time

There are many little things in my studio that I love, it is a pleasure to use great tools & accessories. Not all are dirt cheap, all are utilitarian but deliver an elevated experience.
A silent mouse, no kidding, a mouse made for the recording studio.
Latch Lake accessories, spin grip, xtra boom and VERY useful magnets that I use for mounting a pad, mounting my ll monotors etc.
Mixing Table’s custom wooden racks with leather handles
Hayakumo Foreno VU meters
An Awair air quality meter
A Panasonic Whisper ceiling mounted vent fan to pull gear heat and people exhalation out of the room
A double sized AC vent and ductwork to cool the room
Two new Pella deluxe low E casement windows to add beauty and cut down on heat gain from my Southwest facing windows. Starting this time of year through January, the sun does a number on my studio temperature in the afternoon and required me to close the blinds, which is a shame as the view from 30’ above ground over my creek, bridge and yard is full of wildlife all year.
Flush mounted LED ceiling lighting with dimmers
Great power supplies from SurgeX Beautiful power supplies from Conway Electric
On the audio front: Pueblo Olla DIs Coil 48V

On the audio front: Pueblo Olla DIs Coil 48V Highly agree with both of these and will add the TC Electronic Clarity-M meter. I've only had the meter a week or so and it's become vital (and it's sexy).

Not cheap by the standards of power supplies but cheap enough to not be noticed on a credit card statement! I've always wanted some of those. Also, big fan of the mixing table stuff. I have one for my Console 1 and one for my Faderport 16. Looks good and makes them more functional by putting them at a more usable angle.

If you have a studio without a lava lamp, is it still a studio?

This will seam like the least sexy suggestion but if you do it you will wonder why you didn’t years ago if your turning everything off & on, a used power sequencer.

When I get aimless GAS I usually buy a guitar pedal. If you have a reamp box it can be used in mixing too

These have been my favourite little studio “treats”
TC Clarity M Stream Deck XL Peterson desktop strobe tuner Monogram Creative Console
All super useful and very sweet for satisfying GAS.
