And how’s it doing there? I tend to put ribbons underneath the snare, but I’ve never put one on top; for safety reasons. It sounds woody, retro and modern. I really like it as it blends well with all the other mics - stereo Soyuz 013 tube OH, AEA N8 mono OH. Stereo Heiserman H47 2 metres out, Neumann m49V room stereo. E22 toms, KM85 hat, Earthworks DM6 Kick, Horch Fet outside kick and 4038 out front. Which came together nicely. Damn dude, that’s a nice drum mic setup! I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t jealous

Been awhile since I used a Coles, use an M160 and M160/M130 combo frequently. Have RCA 44-BX and 77-D, Shure 300, several Samar, and others. If I had to pare back to 1-2 types, the Samar would be the first type kept, hands down the most flexible/universal. The M160 texture for OH or guitar is unique and I like it for both. Has done a lot of vocal and banjo duty too. The Samar I've used for positively everything on a record.

I have both: Coles any day of the week! But I’ve got zero pro recordings out there, so don’t put much weight on my opinion.
I also own RM BIV 1 ribbon pair, they used to be cheap (I got mine for a bit over $300) but apparently they’re more rare since Ukraine/Russia war. In my opinion, they’re good enough to be in the discussion of serious ribbon mics when paired with good pre.

Curious about the AL95 vs the more expensive offerings.

I'm thinking my next mic will be the samar vl373, i need to decide between active and passive, i have plenty of quiet high gain pre's but desire a quick stereo no fuss no brainer mic, anyone try/have both?

I have not tried the active. The passive is extremely easy to use with a low noise high gain pre and if I want more color, I use my Locomotive 286a and some Highland Dynamics BG2. It is nice to have a choice!
