Are you running both the L and R out of the echoplex into the micro shift, or just one side? It depends, but usually both. It's never sounded wide enough on its own in stereo, at that point I would rather just run it mono. I did the same thing when I had my analogue Fulltone Tube Tape Echo on mixes. I usually don't like mono delays on vocals, so I grabbed a TC Electronics Mimiq pedal that does a fake doubler sound (which by the way, the Mimiq is still the best doubler I've found. I wish they would make a plugin version of it). I ran a mono AUX off my console to the Tape Echo, Tape Echo into the Mimiq to "fake" it into stereo, and came back in a recorded a wet stereo channel for effects. You would never know it was only a mono tape machine, sounded just like two different units set to slightly different settings. I don't have the Mimiq, but I do have Microshift. Were you using Microshift the same way? I'll give this a try. |

Uad has released. Atr102 native and spark 39$ release sale Maybe this isn't mature, but I'm a little salty over buying these for 10 times the price. I've lost some love. I feel this for sure. I easily dropped prob $4k on UAD plugs over the years. But at the same time, I can understand that I did get to use these for years when they were top of the line. I just don't think UAD really holds that slot anymore. I still love a lot of their plugs and use them on every mix, but they are far less essential than they used to be. I'm just grateful that I only ever bought PCIe cards and never went whole hog and got an apollo - I could see that making one salty for sure. |

Damn, I own it and have Spark….f*ckers! What I love it for is to slightly brighten or darken a mix with the HF knob…then run their API 560 right after, as suggested by MDN (tried it and love it!). That pair now lives on my 2bus.

Oh for gods sake… Let’s just spin it as “more authentic” as you can’t control the wow/flutter on the real tape machine, and you can hook it up to your console and feed an AUX send back in it to get delay just like the real one…

I'll wait until it is $9 $9 is way too expensive, I just got an offer voucher from UAD offering to PAY me $10 to download the native version. I knew if I just waited long enough they'd get desperate!!! |

I know you are just making fun and while it is not full featured , it is still a very good tape plug in, was my fav ua plug on the 2 buss, the wow and flutter and delay are not critical to its sound and I can’t see why you can’t download the linear mastering presets, so it seems to me it could still have a lot of utility. I won’t be buying any ua dsp, so being able to experiment with this 102 plug in is certainly a viable option. As you have ua dsp, the new plug is no skin off your nose anyway, as you will just use the uad2 version . |

There’s only 2 formats:
Uad2, needs sharc dsp
UadX, runs native, ua connect to authorize.
Other than that, there are differences of opinion about UA’s plug pricing shift.
Some say, I got what I paid for, others feel, UA should’ve stepped up and done something meaningful to recognize , the very high price established clients paid vs new clients to use ua plug ins.
UA response, was to give those same clients, another “special” opportunity to again pay higher prices for plug ins.

I tried it to today alongside the Studer a800. I prefer the a800. Something I never liked with tape plugins is that they boost the midrange, the Studer seems allot more subtle. I think I'm going to buy the Studer. Cool either way, I would never jump on the DSP train.

Sidetracking: I've been close to buying my favorite native plugs of them for a year now, but have always got cold feet because of the need to be online 100% of the time with UA connect. I assume it is still like that?

I assume it is still like that? No. I only have Ua connect open to download stuff. After that I close it and disable wifi for that matter. You do need to download Ua connect to download and authorize the plugs. And then activate on ilok. Cheers, Geoff |

Ok, well, I have demoed the uad2 and owned it twice, so I understand the site knowing that, but I don’t own it now and as native is new, seems odd, to prevent people from demoing it ?
