Shoot! Looks like a Thread over at GS... Indicates the end of the Production model. So...
I've heard the "fancier pants" RE50 is mostly all the same. But the non-removable screen tones it slightly darker.
Grasshopper asks if this is slight. Thanks! Chris
EDIT: At B&H's website reads... it reads in small print "discontinued". Bummer.

Theoretically yeah the 635a and RE50 cover the same ground, lots of Omni ENG choices out there, if you include the seed market even more and lots of used 635a’s.
But I’ll miss it probably sold , as many as any other mic.

I can't think of a microphone I like less than the 635 . . . ok, the SM7b and the SM57 maybe

I could make a record with a dozen 635A's, easily worse choices!

I love an RE50 stuck in the middle of a drum kit and heavily compressed.

Ward like them heavily compressed too. In a Trashmasher!

I love it on acoustic guitar if I don't have to worry about bleed. Honestly I like it for anything that I want to sound lo-fi but not cheap.

IMHO nice VO mics too. Informal Spoken Word below. On the classic Intro of "Willin"/George Lowell... I remember reading about an L.A. Radio station (way back) would... Blindly shoot out U87/RE20/SM7/421. Anyway... The 'lil 635a would normally finish an honorable 3rd(!). Sometimes 2nd!! Pretty cool for this Proletariat price-wise pick. Bob O. has mentioned over the years... Sometimes that the talk back 635a in the Motown Snake Pit... Would. Would. Sound better on the Lead Singer, than the NEUMANN they put up. LOL! Chris P.S. After I finish a different Vocal... I'll spend more time on mine. Really dig the 635a on Psychedelic stuff! (Cues "Sugarman" )

I can't think of a microphone I like less than the 635 . . . ok, the SM7b and the SM57 maybe I am mystified by its popularity. There's always another mic I like better when compared directly.

This time... Informal RAW vocal. Plastered in Reverb. Some people even liked it.

I'd say it's more like a bitter element. Arugula maybe. Some people hate arugula no matter what, others like it to balance out sweetness.

Ooof. Certainly a vibe-y mic. But man, its hard to beat a cheap dynamic mic that is also rugged, compact, and well-built. Hard to find a similar and reasonably priced omni option that is equally plentiful.

throw it (literally, like, throw it) onto the floor under a drum kit. let it land by chance. if you're risk-averse, aim for somewhere under the floor tom. then smash it and blend to taste. great vibe.

Its OK as a drum room mic, but I haven't found many things I love it on.

635a is all over Kevin Morby and Sam Cohen records, including vocals. Hard to argue with those results. As one of a myriad of examples. But angain, to each their own. Guess I’m just surprised people actively dislike such a solid mic. Like at worst -maybe it’s boring for some sources/contexts?

For mid-heavy guitar-parts, there’s nothing like it on a cab!
