Count me in on this one.

If they got the magnet and transformer right with that size of ribbon, it could be great. There's a lot of solid ribbons in that price range though, curiosity's going to get the best of me at some point...

Warm's mics have been a mixed bag. I thought the 47 was really good. The 67 was a mud pit.
Looking forward to hearing it next to originals and possibly the AEA recreations though. The price is certainly right on it.

Price is a little steep, but they usually drop it after a few months. Listened to a few more comparisons against a coles. I liked the Coles better as OH's, but the Warm was way cooler on rooms than some U67's in another vid I saw. I record a lot of trumpet, and this could be a really great choice for that duty.

Coles make a better OH than a 44 in general. Veeeeery different sounding mics. 44 is excellent on room. Love it as mono fok.

Man if I were looking for a pair of ribbons to do Coles-like things, I'd be running for some Samar AL95s.

I find Coles in general to be better in that application. R44s will make your toms sound massive as when overhead, but that huge proximity effect is not the best for that particular application, in my experience. Also, there is the fun of trying to keep one of the heaviest mics in existence with one of the worst mounts in a horizontal position. An R44 out in front of the kit or in front of a Fender combo is a thing of beauty, though! I find some of their products to be pretty darn good (WA-412 is excellent), so keeping an open mind. When shooting out a Silverface LA-2A I got and their WA-2A, the WA-2A was ALOT closer than I thought it would be. Certainly more similar than different. If its good, $1K (I assume less, since that is MSRP) is reasonable. Its 1/3rd of the price of the AEA re-creation.

I’ll get a pair sometime too.
I love Coles on OH and they sound at least as good as the Coles.

Oh, I know. I just don’t need them right now.
I love the VL37A I got from him recently though and I’ll get a pair of AL95 at some point in the not too far off future.

Quality 44 Style under $1500... My faith is in the Cloud 44 Active. (With the 2 Switches) Was very impressed with it at NAMM. Roger explained some stuff on it regarding vocals... If anyone is curious about it here. Chris P.S. Samar's Ribbons rock too. But IMHO AL-95 is more Modern toned. (Another wonderful Ribbon)

Not as high a QC commitment as AEA/Cloud/Coles/Stager/Samar/NoHype etc. etc. They tend to effectively rely on their excellent Customer Service to compensate.

They got it to be 3-4 lbs lighter than an original. Still stupid heavy.

I just did a live recording with AEA N8 ribbons on the overheads and kick. Sounds amazing. Better than coles IMO.
Not sure I love how the WA44 sounds. But it appears totally useable.

It dosnt make sense about the weight of the mic. They are not heavy Alnico magnets. they are the newer Neodymium magnets. Neodymium magnets are light. Wonder why they are calling them heavy? Whats going on here to give it the weight?

I would drop my grand and a few hundreds on either AEA84 or a cloud 44 if was after a quality hand made 44 vibe. Also I do recall the 44 would be 1.8microns? might be wrong. But I do prefer the 1.8 on a vocal ribbon.

I own both the Cloud 44a and the RCA 44bx. Both are nice mics. The Cloud sounds nothing like a RCA 44bx.

Man if I were looking for a pair of ribbons to do Coles-like things, I'd be running for some Samar AL95s. OT I know. The AL95's are great (I have a pair). I liked them on drum overheads too but I wouldn't recommend you buy them based on a demo video that doesn't use any crash or ride cymbals. That's a huge component of the overhead sound. obviously (as a ribbon) they don't have the high end sparkle like a condenser, but they EQ well and you can add some of it back. I just used one of the AL95's on a guitar cab this past weekend and it was great. I've used them on a quirky, acoustic parlor sized guitar too before and they worked really well because they were more forgiving of the "plucky" sound it had (almost ukulele-like). And these mics are only about the size of an SDC - easy to place. With an SDC on that same guitar I've had to try to tame the attack a lot more.

Don't forget about Extinct Audio as well. I got a BM9 this winter, and while it sort of looks to be in the R121 camp, it has a much bigger bottom, and less presence.

Every 4038 I’ve used (don’t own) has had significantly less treble than the 44-BX and Samars I own. My 44 sounds most like my Samar MF-65 out of the 11 ribbon types i have, with the 44 having much more pronounced proximity effect.
Someone well in the know mentioned that 44’s and 77’s don’t sound great positioned fully horizontal (typical OH), they always leave them at some angle for better results.

Probably more to cut down on direct reflections from the ceiling since it's a figure 8 mic (especially if you have low ceilings).
