For me it’s a return to recording after very little the last few years.
So, it’s relearning Logic, and Superior Drummer and getting familiar with all the plugs I got in the Black Friday frenzy. Writing some stuff worth recording. Probably need to sharpen my chops to be cleaner and not as sloppy rhythmically. Up my keyboard chops. I m never going to be good, but I need to be better than I am now. Critical listening skills. Are going to need a lot of work.
As for stuff? I’m probably good. If I could find another Daking Fet II I might take the plunge. Possibly a stereo HW eq, possibly monitors. More plugins? Eh, we’ll see.
Now, I’m a weekend warrior at this point. So, very few, if any, people will even hear this stuff. I’m not even sure why I care that it’s any good, but I do.
Cheers and Holiday greetings to the RGO family, Geoff

Experiment more. Play more guitar. Think about gear less
At least some of these are realistic goals

I'd like to try to record a song or two of my/our own with some engineering buddies...like most of us we set out own music aside to record others and it be nice to do something creative on the other side of the glass. We'll see.
Otherwise, do a little bit better job of managing my time so I can enjoy more of it away from work

We'll see. Best wishes in making that happen in 2024. There was a time in the nineties, briefly, that I was recording others more than myself. Adats! Fun times. Cheers, Geoff

Record more of my own music, which was the whole reason I got into this in the first place over a decade ago!

Buy less, listen more.
I'd like to get a better handle on using and hearing subtle compression. Also, I'd really like to have a better command of getting my mixes to translate better.

Singin' on more songs with Kenny Bronowski. And also with some of my fellow collaborating Amigos here. Probably will (re)chat with Joe Chicarelli and John Cuniberti regarding some late Pre-Pandemic (!) vocal stuff, we had discussed before. Not sure if John C. is still doing the One Mic Series. If so maybe do a Rockabilly style vocal. Or a Dylan cover Hmm... Getting somewhat out of the "Strangled Cat phase", in higher Tenor. Might be cool to capture a nice cut way up there. It's a very alien coordination, compared to the normal speaking/singing voice! Chris P.S. Also hoping to become a decent Shakespeare (!) style scene and Poem reader. Ala the Sonnets. Improves diction for one thing.

Good question. Will be working to produce solidly commercial quality live albums that sit well with my references.

Finish recording my 3rd solo album and continue with the writing of my fourth. More gigs with my band - a small tour would be great.
Write and record some songs with an incredible young female singing talent I’ve discovered - no kidding - amazing voice.
I’ve been very productive of late.

Well I'm going to continue having a new approach on my YouTube channel. More performance based, for now it feels like I'm killing the channel haha.. the subs are rapidly declining but well well..
But recent discussion just even more convinced me I can't keep on doing the same thing. Example: talked with a mic manufacturer about doing a video. They where excited. I explained everything, what to expect and also how much work I would put down. Approximately 40h. Got offered 20% off list price. It's almost an insult at that point ...
Anyways... I would love to do some music of my own but I'm not sure if it will ever happen at this point

only got about 80% of the way done on my Surf Rock Christmas album... so I guess I'll call that a goal for 24 (instead of a failure for 23).

I can get 10% -20% off list at my regular dealer just as a regular customer. You should do some music of your own and put it on your channel :-)

I’d like to get my room built and something recorded in there by the end of 2024. Going to be cutting it close. House is almost there, Sheetrock is done and cabinets ordered. I did a hell of a job of designing a bunch of millwork so that’s going to take some time…
If I can get the design done and at least a control room and booth built out and wired up by this time next year I’ll be super happy. Going to be a busy 2024!

Actually my real DREAM for 2024 would be a studio space where I can record real drums, real piano, real organ, real synths, real percussion.
Sadly in my part of the world that's a big ask and a minimum of $100,000 investment as I'd have to move house and buy something with more land and build something sound proof and that's a min. 100K build cost.
I'm not sure how I'd justify such a project - it's tricky for sure.

Keep dialing in my little room (ergonomics, maybe a bit more bass trapping).
Finish my full length and put it out.
Mix for more people who already sound good and appreciate what I do for them. (Been on a roll, but there's room for more).

(@ High Tenor)...In that boat too. Even "just for" vocals. Especially LOUD ones. Seems usually best then to really rehearse. Then go to someone else's set up Pro Studio. More practical. Like renting the fishing boat. Versus buying it. Chris

Less recording, more production! Less "Mixer brain," more feeling and vibe brain.

I hope to be more consistent in releasing new material by my main recording project but when others are involved, it depends on them. And, when we are pretty sure we won’t make a lot, if, any money, it’s hard to motivate folks sometimes.
And since that is moving slower than I hoped, I have spent the last six months developing my solo performing chops and have been working towards getting gigs by myself. So, I will also start learning how to produce and release better promo and music videos of me on my own to try to get myself out there. I will also try to release an EP of some of my own stuff.

My goals are to go part time at my day job, which I’m actively looking to do right now. Also I’ve been getting more dedicated mix work which is both cool and new to me. I’d like to continue that trend. I’m planning on releasing an EP if my own material and writing a full other album as well.

Like renting the fishing boat. Versus buying it. Chris I have a studio in the loft of my house and it’s on a proper floating steel floor - so noise wise I can record vocals and crank my ATC 25’s …. even very late at night. But drums and paino that’s a whole other category of SPL !! A studio in the back garden is the answer - but it would have to have a commercial element to it and reading threads in recent years I get the very strong impression the trade just isn’t there anymore. Everyone at the level I’d be offering records at home and the “stars” are using the big commercial studios with named famous producers. So it would be potentially a vanity project …. I’m not sure it’s justified here in 2024! I’ve thought about renting a place to track real drums - it’s the obvious solution.
