It is. But once you create a space that’s easy and fun to work in, I think that’s priceless. Could not agree more. A room you can trust and feel good working in is fantastic.

Not sure how different they are based on the tube shape vs the same amount of 703 in a standard panel, but I do have four 10" x 2" 703 pipe insulation tubes on my front wall and what's nice is that they're free standing, light weight and stackable. I may fill them with insulation at some point, just to see. I believe that the "secret sauce" in these things relates not to the shape but to the enclosed air space - it makes the device act like the acoustic equivalent of an RC filter circuit. The commercial product has dividers to damp this enclosed air mass. The patents for these things are now expired and available on line - they are a wealth of information if you can wade through the language of the patents (which is NOT written to be easily understandable.)

at $16-1700 usd for just two, they better be damn good : enjoy ! I know, late to the party but Holy sheeeeit! I know another producer in town who has them, always thought they were cool but had no idea they were that expensive! Thinking most people have what…4 on each side, 4 on the back plus two monitor ones, then some have a few spaced behind the listening position…that is a lot of moola! It was painful when I bought my 8 (on sale from ASC at $500 each) 4 years ago but ended up being one of my best purchases. Benny described their effect well, all my recordings instantly took a jump up, way less shit to fight. For whatever reason here in LA used tube traps have been popping up left and right lately for some great deals, I'd say if anybody wants some just set some search notifications on all the reseller sites and wait for the deals.

They’ve gone through a couple waves of popularity. I’m guessing some of the used ones may be from slightly older studios that are now either closing down or upgrading to a more purpose-built facility. But who knows. Just a wild guess. Regardless, they’re tough to ship, and if you’re outside of a major market (like myself), they never pop up locally. I’ve definitely considered gassing up the car for a loooooong drive a couple times when I’ve seen some used ones.

Depending on the savings it might be worth the long drive to pick them up, I haven't checked ASC's prices lately but as everything seems to have jumped they're probably very expensive now.
