First one that comes to my mind is Sound Radix. I’m planning to upgrade to Auto-Align 2. Man, I had high hopes for Auto Align 2. To be fair and transparent, I’ve only tried the AA2 demo on a couple sessions’ drum tracks thus far, but it hasn’t blown my hair back. I still preferred the individual track polarity flips to get the biggest and most cohesive drum sound. And AA2 kinda just sounded like what AA already does (which is great on lots of things, I use it mostly on guitars and bass) but with a slightly quicker workflow. I dunno. Jury is out for me on AA2. Man...totally agree. 98% of my work is recorded in one studio, so maybe the drums are just setup extremely well...but I think there might have been one time where I thought, "oh that made it sound better." Otherwise, I rarely can tell any difference. Haven't multi-miked an acoustic in a while, so maybe it would do a bang up job with that. I know when I did record a stereo acoustic, the V1 was freaking awesome.

It definitely sounds different (drums with AA2) over here, I just don’t like it as much as my usual method of flipping polarity on the individual tracks to taste. But, yeah AA1 is awesome on multi mic’d guitars or bass mic/DI.

Ok, to put it another way, any that you are particularly anticipating if they have a Black Friday discount? Cheers, Geoff First one that comes to my mind is Sound Radix. I’m planning to upgrade to Auto-Align 2. I'm hoping this goes on sale as well.

But, yeah AA1 is awesome on multi mic’d guitars or bass mic/DI. I was assisting someone recently and due to the very narrow port on the bass drum head we couldn't quite get Kick In where we wanted it and as such it wasn't additive when combined with Kick Out. So, the Producer plugged in one of those Radial phazer boxes and rotated until it sounded the worst— then flipped polarity and bam, great bass drum sound. So, I could see that being one use of AA2, potentially. The other interesting thing on that session— l'm out moving mics around in the live room and the drums sound great. The Producer tells me that there is a weird distortion on Kick In. We swap the mics. Still not right in the control room. Gain at the desk is fine, we try a pad but still there. Finally I get on my hands and knees and look at the Kick In placement while the drummer is playing: turns out it's fine when the drum is static, but the excursion of the front head on impact is causing the plastic ring on the port to come forward just barely enough to touch the body of the mic. Sheesh. A bigger front port would have solved both of the above issues much more quickly.

No, it just wasn’t specific, so I just wondered, if you had some other concern ? I think UA is being too smart by half with all its marketing!

When you buy UAD bundles, if they add something to it in the future, do you get it? Like, do people that had the Signature bundle before Sound City (or whatever it’s going to end up being called) existed, now get that plug-in when it’s released?

Sometimes, UA did that with the last Ultimate upgrade, special price, plus you would get the upcoming plug ins. But normally plug in WYSIWYG !

Not a plug per se but, Sweetwater has the studio one 6 professional upgrade from any other version for $104. I had been thinking about upgrading for a while so I guess this is as good of a time as any.

The company I'm involved with Klanghabitat is having a sale like everyone else ha!
25% off our 500-series hardware and up to 50% on plugins.
For you guys who aren't aware all our products are based around a unique saturation circuit which gives you a more subtle type of saturation with a wide sweetspot.

I've found that AA2 makes a bigger difference on drums when I playback an entire track while it's "listening" for audio during the alignment process. Just feeding it 30 seconds or so gives variable results, which sometimes I do not prefer. I apply AA2 before gating or selective track muting, which seems to improve tom alignment. I've not done a deep comparison between the two versions- I didn't find it necessary. Since AA2 is easier to set up, I've switched. So far I've not tried it on other instruments.

I don't have room in my 500 series rack for any more modules but its on my radar now for future purchases.

We're a team of 3, two with a Degree of Master of Science and me (heh..), who does the marketing. We starve the tube much like an VCA which gives you allot more subtle style saturation. The feedback we've gotten is that it works great on the masterbus but also like on vocals and drums. It's quite addictive I'd say. If you want a feel for the HW you can demo or buy or plugin based on the hardware. Like most Comparison our plugin is like 85% "there" compared to the HW.

The McDSP sale went live today. Up to 75% off depending on the product. Their 6030 compressor, which is ten models in one that let's you click through the different models is on sale for $29. It something I've used since I got into Pro Tools and still shows up in most mixes.

I just got an email that the Massenberg plugins are 25% off. I thought I had read somewhere that these wouldn't be going on sale so that's a nice surprise. I bought the MDWDRC2 when it came out and it's been stellar so I'll grab the eq. I like to support good efforts like George's when I can.
