I often listen to Sirius XM, and frequently turn on th pop channel, The Highway, when I need a break from country music (ba doom pish) Anyhow, I hear an artist known as Redfern or Redfield with his latest single on . . . and it's so heavily ATed I think I'm listening to Cher circa 1996
Anyone knows the artist, share a link,
And what's the worst example of over-use of AT from 2020 to date?

Every time I try to hit a "modern _____" type podcast all I ever hear is autotune and massive edits. This is not genre specific. Add to that every subgroup is limited to death and I rarely can make it through 3 songs. It's worse than the all sequenced pap of the 80s.

Now the Spanish music stations do 95% of what's called Reggaeton & 100% of it is AT'd (from 0-10 retune speed) with the most simplistic of harmonies, melodies & lyrics. Sometimes completely unintelligible (Bad Bunny).

Just listened to that album the other day and thought the same. Couldn’t tell whether it’s overt, or I can just hear auto tune better now. Sounds like Melodyne to me, only cause I’ve worked with it a bunch.

The new Stones single vocal tuning is buh-rutal.
As for what's the worst, ehh, isn't it all? Listening to modern pop or country feels like listening to a playlist of Doritos and Verizon commercials. It's all just same-er-ized into nothingness. Every once in awhile something will provide some unintentional comedy, which is nice because you feel something for a second. But mostly it's just more of the same 'make everything epic and huge until nothing is epic or huge' approach that's been the dogma du jour for, I dunno, 20 years? The end result sounds about as exciting and engaging as a beige wall, as unique and memorable as hotel room art.

I am not ashamed to have enjoyed some ‘traditional’ dances in spain this summer. Might be the company, drinks and the hour, but can’t quite remember it as bad as that Bunny however.

Turn on Bluegrass Junction on SiriusXM and you’ll hear some Cher level tuning

I’ve always been mystified as to why Michael Buble and his team have an obsession with AT.
I thought it was commonly accepted the guy has a decent voice?

Turn on Bluegrass Junction on SiriusXM and you’ll hear some Cher level tuning There is an awful lot of Nickel back influenced stuff there... I had to turn it off a long time ago. 61 and 62 are still my favorite channels, occasionally listening to The Highway which must have AT and MD as requirements for playlist adding. When I need a break, I listen to hair nation for zero AT and great harmonies and occasionally hear my backing vocals there

Some great singers have incredible pitch but the mixer or producer will add AT/Melodyne/Flex/vocaloid to tame vibrato or maybe to fix a slow rise/return to pitch

I'd imagine that today's pop consumers consider any un-tuned vocal unpolished and not 'professional.'

I remember some big shot pop producer stating that he was so used to auto tune on vocals that it sounded wrong no mather how good the singer.
In some genres auto tune seems to be part of the sound like 909 or Boss HM-2.

I'd imagine that today's pop consumers consider any un-tuned vocal unpolished and not 'professional.' No need to imagine, it’s real. It’s like that Twilight Zone episode where the patient is waiting for the bandages to come off his face. When it does , all the doctors proclaim the surgery a failure because the outcome was not hideous; the new beauty “norm”.
