So what’s the lowest price Silencer goes on sale? It’s $35 now which seems pretty good. But I don’t *need* it, if I can wait a bit and save a few bucks

Did an A/B when this and Oxford drum gate were last on sale. Oxford retained the attack much, much better in my experience…for what it’s worth. Wasn’t even close to be honest.

Great video - what's most impressive watching the start of the video is how they recorded the drums with no mics!
Talk about superior technique!

Yeah I found the stock ProTools expander / gate was better attack than Silencer. Silencer is definitely affecting the sound in a way that sounds phasey to my ears. I can clearly hear it on any snare drum I have used it on. Needs more work

If Oxford Drum Gate HAD A DAMN SIDECHAIN it would be the king. It is so very odd that they left that out.

Oxford Drum Gate used to completely kill my last computer, when using it on multiple tracks. Silence doesn't do that but it messes with transients. I use it, but I don't do full gating. I'm using it more as an expander and only reduce about 12dB. Works well in that scenario.

Seems like this one was super popular w folks on RGO... now a new wave of people dont seem to like it. Kinda weird!

I still use it, but I use it in parallel with other processing/gating. I still think it's helpful.

The best use for this plugin, is to mute the output and put in the track after the gate into a sidechain with a Fabfilter or stock DAW gate. Works best IMO

I'm coming back to the subject a bit because I just got the Oxford Drum Gate for 43€ on Plugin Boutique and I was able to compare with Silencer and Debleed, I find that Sonnox did a much better job, it sounds much more natural than the other two and it removes as much bleed (at least on my tests). I'm very happy to have bought it! Thanks dan for talking about it somewhere in this topic or another.

Been wanting this to be on sale. Bought. Silencer is in my unused plug in folder - it may have a use somewhere in the future if they can get rid of the plastic sound.

Silencer is also in my unused plugins folder. Just like Debleed. All Sonnox plugins are on sale on Plugin Boutique for those who are interested. I hesitated to get the Inflator that I don't have but I have a copied and free version (JS Inflator but ported to VST3 for which I made one of the two GUIs) and I find that it does the job well. If anyone is interested, I'll post the link: github.com/Kiriki-liszt/JS_Inflator
