M7 are there own breed ( they are a pain the ass is what meant lol ) yes reskinned m7 sound better, mainly due the fact of removing the PVC, and replacing with mylar.
They are kinda like WYSIWYG. I have refaced a couple on the lathe, not really fun. When done right they sound incredible

@shan & Eric, are either of you guys doing a ground up M7 cap? How do you guys feel about the potential of re-skinning the Chinese K47 capsules? Any chance of getting a lower cost option for the MK47 projects that sounds even remotely like an original? Obviously the blueline Thiersch is the favorite for this project, but that doesn't necessarily mean we can't get the same vibe for less. I'd be much more comfortable throwing a smaller MK47 with a re-skinned Chi cap in front of a windy kick than a 2K+ mic, especially in a live enviro (eek). have you tried the Vintage DIY fet47? i'm about to finish mine, then i'm sending it to Shan the man for a M7 rebuild/reskin install, and final tweaking. The "new" from factory capsule M7 had a stripped out center screw, glued wire that he's re surfacing/lapping/reskinning. This was a "so called high end capsule"(i'm just thankful the backplate hole pattern was ok, even though it was pretty severely crowned, which is a sign of machining too deep too quick, instead of proper cooling/nibbling). I have no doubt Shann will pimp this mic to real deal status!

With all of the 47 projects (both MKU47 and standard MK47) that are about to explode I think it's be killer if either of them had a ready-to-go DIY option for it. They wouldn't be tough to sell.
