Where can I buy a Thiersch?? Here's what i sent them after slow/ no responses... "Hi Jessica, my name is Anthony, I am ready to buy, and would like a pair of m7, red and blue line, are you running any specials or discounts right now for pairs? As soon as you respond to this email, and tell me how to proceed with a purchase, i will do so. If you use paypal, invoice me at tcampadoo@gmail.com I'm in San Diego California 92009"
I received an email quickly after that, and the perfectly beautiful capsules were in my hands in less than 2 weeks.

Anyone ever stick a different capsule in a CV4 (other than the Shannon mod)? One of the BeesNeez 47's or something? One of you DIY guys perhaps? Shannons mod is too rich for my blood, but a DIY capsule swap should be easy enough right? I'm not sure what the CV4 circuit is modeled after? If the circuit is a flat frequency response design, then you could try what ever, but if it's got an eq'd circuit, you want to stick with the style it's designed for.. ala C12 for elam type circuit, k67 for a U67 type circuit etc. hope that makes sense Mike Ketchell used to say it was more M49...I have a feeling it's very similar to the Blackspade UM17.

Dear person - I am ready to give you my money - do you want it? This is how many of my transactions have gone at Guitar Center... "I'm ready to buy and have cash in hand, will you sell me what I need? Ohh, your system says that you have 10 of them in stock, but can't find any? I guess I'll have to go elsewhere to give them my money."

I got an email from Telefunken Electroacoustic (USA) this morning. It had some links to things at NAMM and in their studio. I followed one where I could see their U47 mic, and listened to it. It took around two seconds before I thought,"that sounds like my U17 Blueline". Then I looked up their mic selection, and sure enough they use the same BV8 transformer designed by Oliver Archut as my mic, and an M7 capsule, ( I wonder where they source that). They also mention a new tube they're using. Still, it was cool to see what must be a pricey U47 clone that does't sound much different than my Blackspade. here are the links:: www.telefunken-elektroakustik.com/products/mics/show_product.php?item=20

Oh my, I just looked up the MSRP, and it's $8,499 ! Save yourself what, $6500 or more, and just get one of Oliver's Tab Funkenwerk kits, its likely quite similar. Or… DIY the MK-47!
I'm feeling better about my U17 everyday now ;-)
Anyone have a suggestion as to an affordable U67 clone? I like that sound, but have zero in my budget right now, but would like to begin snooping around about it.

I have to say that there is nothing special about the sound of those mics in that video, certainly not $8000 special
If you were their Marketing people, wouldn't you demo it in a nice studio and have a vocal source that's a little fuller?

If they do in fact have a promo video/recording that sounds great, then this video would be a fine addition to it, but if this is it, then you're right eph182. Herre's a good example of a quality promo video, just scroll down a bit to see the video and keep listening until at least the middle. I'm not saying this is everything you need to know about the product being demo'ed, but you see the effort was first class. www.warmaudio.com

Well, I've come to the conclusion that my reasonably high end two year old DELL laptop (using DT 770 phones) is totally incapable of giving me audio that would allow to hear significant differences in those devices.
I could hear slight level differences but they were all good sounding. (Which I believe was Warms's intent. Well done)
I will say that none of them sounded as thick and pleasantly gooey as my Great River pre with the help of my FMR PBC compressor. I would loved to have that chain after her voice and the Neumann mic. IMO her vocal needed more "meat", it sounded too "fragile", just like the guitar sound. Just my opinion,,,,,, some like female vocals sounding like they could blow away in the wind. Not me

Yeah. These guys are legends in the DIY world already. 5+ years ago complete parts kits like this weren't so common. 75% of the build time was really spend sourcing and ordering parts. What a pain. That PSU looks straight up awesome! I think they are developing it for the MK47 which Chunger is selling now, but it will be perfect for the MKU47!

Did you order one Kid? Got mine and it looks killer. The finish is a little mottled (imperfect) but I'll admit it gives it a vintage look that I kinda like. Got Thiersch Blueine in the drawer (and one on the way for Cowboy too) so we're waiting on that new power supply from Chunger, then blast-off. I have to hand it to both Max and Matador/Chunger. I have never seen projects this complete, concise and well put together before. I'd hate to be a vintage mic dealer about 6 months from now.
