I see they're in. A couple of questions...I figure I could just start this SUPER SLOW...and I'm sure you kind gents (Shannon too) are available to bail me out if I get totally lost. The only part that totally confuses me is the PS. Any thoughts? So - about $1200 for this kit, then whatever capsule? About $1500 all in? groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=35667.0

they will have a generic diy psu at studio 939 real soon ( matador/chunger), more like pushing 1500 plus including the psu but well worth it
I bought mine.

the euro conversion makes this in the $1,200usd neighborhood, then the capsule, and PSU. If your totally DIY, your looking at about $17-18,000 i think. There is no doubt the PSU is the most difficult part of this build, there is no step by step on it, if Chung comes out with one, it should be pretty straight ahead, and with great documentation i would think. I do have to say, IMO this diy 47 is the nicest design i've seen on an aesthetically correct U47 clone to date.

i tried 3 different capsules in my mk47, the Thiersch M7 blueline pvc was the runaway winner imo, the only capsule id consider beside this, is something Shannon put together.

I'm confused though. It says on the site that the bv.08 transformers for the U47 is sold out?? Aren't they included in the kit???

Wooow Bro, I think your figures are a little off. With P.S ($300)., Cable ($50), 1 binder ($25), Capsule ($400). (off the top of my head) add another $775. to the almost $1,300 U.S. (with P.P. fees and shipping) for the kit. Just over $2,000. All figures are are subject to quality of parts bought.

Seems like a lot of money for a DiY project. Granted, I'm sure it's an extremely nice product in person. Just seems like a lot for a DiY mic. I "splurged" on my U47 project by not getting the most affordable one available, and this one costs even more haha
I'd love to test drive one to see how...
Max's transformer compares to Olivers How the parallel 6028 tubes sound compared to an EF800/EF802 How a Thiersch PVC sounds compared the BeesNeez K7
Not that you can easily test each one of those separately.
Since this new project incorporates a headbasket switch made by Flea, does it still utilize a relay for remote switching, as well, or no?

I did exactly that my friend, add a redline, BN M7 and a K47 to that list as well, i've tried them all for a week or more each, my K7 is in a shoeps circuit now, sounds very good in there. The relay, i'd say nope, looks like it's gonna switch from the PSU, i'd bet the more ambitious DIY types could easily implement it though...

The PSU wasn't actually that hard, I built one for an mk47 with the board from zayance and used an old toolbox for the case. You can do it, Johnkenn! The mk47 was my first mike build. The support you get over at groupdiy is priceless, just take it slow and do your homework. Man, I wish I had the spare funds for this new one, it looks incredible.

For me, the most difficult part when putting together the PSU, was figuring out how to mount the toroidal transformer and the board in the case . The soldering part was pretty standard.

Do you have to source all the parts for the PSU or does it come in a kit as well?

Do you have to source all the parts for the PSU or does it come in a kit as well? You have to source the parts. It comes to about a hundred bux, not including the pcb.

I'm going back and forth with it. Just don't know if I want to put this much into it. And I'm scared it's something I would be totally overwhelmed with.
