Looks like I got 5 right: BM49 (If I don’t know the sound of a 49 by now….) BU67/269 in all its 4 variations. The New versions are exactly what I expect from both of these sounds. This is probably my next mic purchase once the new studio is ready. Now that I have the key I’ll need to give them another listen. You might want to look at your answers again. You have the 67s out of order in which Ben gave. |

I got 4 right. I actually got all 4 bu67 models correct. I own the original and have gotten very acquainted with its different modes. I failed miserably at the others. Now I can go back and listen again and check the mics as revealed.

Enlav, Vincent, Brice , wiz and Christopher all got 3 right. Chris got 2, and I got 4. I think I checked everyone. Oh and Ben got them all right. Really wanted to hear the BU47 on this list. Ben maybe you can do another pass with the BU47. I know I’m not the only one wanting to hear it.

So who's the winner? Also, now that you know, Let's talk about them. which ones do you like and how do you rate the Elly fet and Isobel against the rest now you know which mics they are.. Keen for some feedback. Only got two right on my end. I think the real winner though is the BC12A. I went from thinking it was probably my least favorite capture, to it turning out to be one of my favorite two.
For reference, I thought the Arabella and T1 were my favorites (2 and 10), only to find out it was the BC12A and T1 respectively. It does reinforcement my appreciation for U47's mics, and maybe nudge me into the direction of getting another mic with an M7...
The most interesting part about this shootout/test is that every capsule is used multiple times, so you can really hear how much the circuit design impacts the capture as a whole.
The differences are certainly audible, but when blind, I didn't think mic 4 (Elly fet) was a worse or less nuanced capture than mic 1 (Arabella). The Isobel was the only case I thought it was a little bright, but depending on the song and voice, it might have been my favorite.
If I wasn't saving up for a delayed honeymoon, I'd be budgeting how I could get a pair of the BC12A's and maybe talking to you about an Elly with your M7 though.

Hi Guys. All righty then. here are the results. It was simply in Alphabetical order.....lol Arabella BC12A Tube BM49 Elly Fet Isobel New 67 New 269 Old 67 Old 269 T1 T2 So who's the winner? Also, now that you know, Let's talk about them. which ones do you like and how do you rate the Elly fet and Isobel against the rest now you know which mics they are.. Keen for some feedback. Looks like I got the most right. That being said I was not expecting mic 2 to be the BC12a tube. This example sounds way darker that what I heard from the mic in Josh's video. Out of all the mics that was the darkest on your voice. It is amazing how the ck12 style capsule sounds the way it does in the T2 vs. the BC12a. I guess the capsule is depended on the circuit as much as the circuit is depended on the capsule. The Arabella sounds very close to the T1. The Arabella seems to have a little less low end. The BM49 is an impressive sounding mic. I would love to hear a pass of this song through the BU47. |

Congrats to guitarheadhunt and everyone brave enough to stick their necks out there. I find it very easy to identify the right mic for a voice, but hard to distinguish between all the wrong ones as I just want to stop listening ASAP. |
