Hi Guys. I have made some very quick recordings of s few of our mics as I am always getting sample requests. I have mixed them (very quickly) into a mix so that you can hear the mic in context rather than solo'd. No EQ was harmed during this production just a smidge of compression and a bit of light Verb. there are 11 samples with some from each range. From the Tribute series there is a T1 and a T2 (u47 and 251) From the Producer series there is an Arabella (Original BeesNeez) From the Classic series, there is a BM49, BC12A tube, B67/269 (Both modes and New and Old too; so four samples in total from this mic) From the Studio Series, there is an Isobel and an Elly Fet. (original BeesNeez) Here are the rules. Everyone can access the WAV files (just for you Chris!!!!!!!!!!) and take a listen. Post back with your thoughts as to which mic is which and also which mic is your favourite on my voice. Whoever has the most correct guesses will be posted a free BeesNeez Oliver Fet mic. This isn't a competition per se, more just some fun and a chance for you all to hear how different our mics sound on the same source. The Pre used was from the ssl big 6. I also have all of the same mics records through my brand spanking new twin channel Locomotive Audio pre and we can take a listen to these another time. To be fair, I think we can leave this one going until the end of July and then Chris can remind me (always handy to have a time keeper) to tally it all up. The mics are numbered for ease so just put a name next to the number in your answers. Don't forget to choose a favourite and tell us all why it's your favourite. Enjoy. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zooDhhr3gmD7F-XOgSO_YeRe4_3GJoH7?usp=share_link

Well I listened to each... I won't compete in the competition....as I already got my deal from Ben on the B67... I really liked 5.
I am really curious to see what that mic is...
cheers

Make your guesses anyway. If you win, I’ll send the 2nd place getter a mic also just to keep it fair. Same goes for you too Chris!! It’s a bit of fun so why not!!

Just an fyi too. I have an extremely dark voice so even the brightest mics can sound dark with me (a hint for you all)
Cheers

If we all post the same answer ... Ah yes, I saw that coming!!! The key lies in the details!!! “Most correct answers!” There must be a loser to be a winner .lol

My oldest is Oliver. I need to win! Haha I tried to use a similar argument on the guys at Soundtracs to get them to park an Eric console in our demo Room, they gave me a very nice Brochure and us a deal on a Demo Topaz.

Wish I had actually compared the Arabella with a few other mics when I had recorded a client that brought one in for their vocals. I've heard it, but have zero reference thinking back on how it compares to other mics.
Just to be sure - Ben, should we be posting our guesses or private messaging you?

Hey Ben... Beautiful voice. I sensed you're modest about it. Very cool. Check out Dan Penn's vocals sometime (maybe you've heard them). You kinda sound like his Baritone brother. Dan has quite a remarkable Tenor, and is a legendary songwriter. Like his Buddy, Spooner Oldham. Now I'll be looking forward to hearing more. Just like when I hear the other singers here. Chris

I basically went through the WAV files once, drawing quick associations to basic tonal qualities, then one more time to make sure the groups were similar enough (as opposed to my ears perceiving something as brighter in the earlier mics now as neutral.
Then I realized I had no idea how drastic the the new/old switch would be in the 67/269, what a 269 sounds like compared to a 67, and suddenly my educated guesses started feeling very ill-informed when I realized the last mic I hadn't assigned was the BM49 and WAV file 1.
MIC 1 - BM49
MIC 2 - Tribute 1
MIC 3 - B67/269 (269, NEW)
MIC 4 - Tribute 2
MIC 5 - BC12A
MIC 6 - B67/269 (67, NEW)
MIC 7 - Isobel
MIC 8 - B67/269 (269, OLD)
MIC 9 - Elly Fet.
MIC 10 - Arabella
MIC 11 - B67/269 (67, OLD)
Might speak for my preference in mics and music, but I like the WAV files for 1 2 and 10 the most. I was tempted to put the Arabella label on something more mid-forward, but I remember the mic being a little warmer (not to be mistaken for lacking top-end). If the song past :53 starts introducing more elements that would compete with that body I'd maybe think otherwise, but I really enjoy how both mics play with your voice.
I'm not too picky honestly - I think the only capture I'd really think twice about swapping the mic with would be Mic 5 if a click or two on the EQ doesn't help it out.
(All listening on K701's)
EDIT: Final guesses after the hint for 6, 7, 8, and 9.
MIC 1 - BM49 MIC 2 - Tribute 1 MIC 3 - Isobel MIC 4 - Tribute 2 MIC 5 - BC12A MIC 6 - B67/269 (67, NEW) MIC 7 - B67/269 (269, NEW) MIC 8 - B67/269 (269, OLD) MIC 9 - B67/269 (67, OLD) MIC 10 - Arabella MIC 11 - Elly Fet.
Keeping most guesses the same aside from shifting the 67/269 mic's back into the hinted at slots. I'm tempted to move around the BC12A around to a different source, especially after hearing Seawell's review video. I think I've had a misconception about the C12 for a long time thanks to a few older inspired-by models or clones... (i'm guessing I have the tribute 2 and BC12A mixed up) but let's keep it interesting as it is.

All the mics sound really good. I don't think any of these just don't work. My favorites were: 7 & 3. Looking forward to seeing the key and going back through them.

finally checked them all out and right away I really like mic 8. I don’t know if it’s because I listened in order and previous mics left me wanting what 8 has? I’ll do more listening in the next week

I don't have my notes in front of me, but now I'm really curious to go back over these tonight and listen again to those four in particular compared to the field.

OK. My studio is in storage, I'm listening on some decent external computer speakers, but not my monitors. Here are my thoughts.
MIC 1 - Elly FET MIC 2 - T1 MIC 3 - BM49 MIC 4 - T2 MIC 5 - BC12A Tube MIC 6 - BU269 (Old) MIC 7 - BU269 (New) MIC 8 - BU67 (Old) MIC 9 - BU67 (New) MIC 10 - Arabella MIC 11 - Isobel

Just want to say I felt like they all are very good mics, and great performance. Ok.. 8 stood out as creamy, 11 stood out as brighter. 1 felt kinda Goldilocks, just right. 2 about the same. 3 similar with more vintage mids and top. 4 reminded me of c12/414. 5 just like 4 but a little different. 6/7/9 I was confused, 8 reminded me of 67. 10 felt like Goldilocks again. 11 bright, I wondered if 251? I read the descriptions on your web page, listened to some samples. Here’s my guesses ...
1- T1 47 2- Arabella 3- bm 49 4- bc12 tube 5- T2 251 6- bu269 modern 7- bu67m 8- bu 67vintage 9- bu269v 10- isobell 11- ellyFet
