You can't make an LA2A in a 500 series format. It is sadly not possible due to consumption limitations on 500 series racks. I made a 2 tube and 3 tube version and it just doesn't sound like my LA-2A, it sounds very similar to an LA-3A. I strongly advice you get the AS 2A if you are after an LA2A sound (or mine or Warm and change the transformers and T4B cell) Nothing wrong with the 500 series, they sound good but they are no LA2A's. You can't honestly or correctly make one, not close to the spec . . . but you can make an LA3a or LA4 in a 500 series, and those are two very useful comps!

Yeah LA3 and4 don’t get the love they deserve. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that they are solid state, the form factor or that for years you could find them doing all kinds of general house keeping duty in install racks. Maybe it was that Harman didn’t understand what to do with the LA4, I don’t know.

I tend to be very skeptical about the idea of squeezing large rackmount gear (like an LA2A) down into a 500 sized format. Especially tube gear that runs at high voltage.

OF COURSE you COULD build a good LA2A clone, but it would not be easy like doing a 500 series kit. And it wouldn't fit a 500 format for sure!

There is no way you could squeeze an LA2A into such a small format and expect it to sound the same. Most tube gear is that way to some extent.

They are big. I have an original La2a Babcock version and it is the one piece of gear I’ll never sell. Changed everything about vocal production for me. I miss being able to post and see gear porn on here.

Hi, Ward. Yes, I do. A pair of each. Fabulous! Come on with a review and some kind of overview on these, please! Yes! Chad, any more thoughts on the Tegelers?

I miss being able to post and see gear porn on here. Is that because the image size limitation of the forum? I think JK should really consider increasing those limits, and also allowing sound file uploads. Relying on third-party hosters is brittle because often the links become dead. It's great to be able to see images and hear audio on GS from 15+ years ago. That's the only thing this forum is lacking.

Not a exact clone as it’s not possible as mentioned in previous posts but I vote the JLM LA-500 with slow attack mod and the Acme Opticom XLA-500 on the slow setting are pretty great for that thing.

You can actually, I have No downsizing transformers, 4 Tubes and a T4B in its original size. It’s not about the space but the consumption the issue

Fabulous! Come on with a review and some kind of overview on these, please! Yes! Chad , any more thoughts on the Tegelers? So far, I've only used them on vocals of a song I worked on (mixing & mastering) for my son, Josh. Here's the link to where I talked about the workflow: realgearonline.com/thread/14993/silver-bullet

If that's the case, he'd need our additional and regular financial support. As it is now I believe he already shoulders a lot of the site fees.
