Yup... and the 9182 is 8pf per foot!
Well the order went in yesterday, so hopefully I will have the spool by Friday.

Cool, Yeah I love those things. They are a little pricey for what they are, but they stay attached to the cables.

DMX CablesI found these pre-made cables with 3 prong xlr ends that are rated 120 ohms. They are for high speed data and lighting. Would these be good for mic cables?

Would these be good for mic cables? i don't know, but i'd like to find out? i could have bought more cable for less $ than i just spent..xlrs included, and pre built!...mehhh... 30 ohms less resistance than the belden 9182 we just got, that price is more than right with the xlrs.

Rated impedance of a cable doesn't mean much without a standard input impedance between preamps. Since preamps can/will range from 150 to 10K+ ohm inputs, the cable doesn't do much.
However, what this does tell us is that in order to transmit squared edges for the DMX signals, the cable should have a very small amount of capacitance, probably less than regular audio cables. 110ohm AES cables are known for being pretty good for audio, not necessarily because the lesser capacitance, but more for a more uniform capacitance and better build quality of the cable. Capacitance is only one factor, but having incongruous capacitance over distance can help create distortions and/or reflections. Having a braided shield is good for this, that's why CATV transmission cable has this.

These look like belden cables... they use the duofoil name, which is a belden trademark. Unfortunately with out a published data sheet its all speculation.
Edit: Found the specs for Belden's DMX512 clase cables.... 11 - 13pf per foot and 120 ohms. The 9182 is lower at 8pf per foot.

lower pf is a measure of resistance and results in better quieter delivered signal ?

lower pf is a measure of resistance and results in better quieter delivered signal ? Pf is capacitance and is measured between conductors, and conductors and shield.

No problem. Glad you got it. It was a good bit of work, but it is rewarding knowing that everyone was upstanding forum members, and I could supply an normally unattainable product.

Yes Much appreciated. I have a buddy who always helps me out a lot with my mixes so I bought half my cabling to make him a hi end cable for his DIy C12 microphoneparts mike. (that sounds great) He knows better stuff is out there but is retired now and wouldn't spend the money.
Thanks Patrick !

Has anybody who bought this cable tested it to regular mic cable? Results
