so i got a 2021 refurbished „new“ macbook pro m1 max and it came with sonoma installed. is it safe now with logic pro? or should i re-install the original ventura? i need a stable system and i hate wasting time with bugfixes …
i still got my mbp 2012 with high sierra: stable as hell but with new plugin power needs it got a bit slow - though still working fine. i‘d like to record with 96hz as well and dive more into acustica plugs, thats why i wanted a new computer.

Only Sonoma bug I’ve had is that the Finale ScoreManager Add Instruments feature is disabled. Logic has responded normally… so far….

Nice, I haven't upgraded yet @shea I used oclp to load Ventura on my 2012 mbp, works perfectly, so I have same software on it and my m1 mini, very convenient.

I don't know what happened, but auto update must have "turned itself on" a week ago and I left my computer on before I left as I was rendering some video files. Got in the next day and I was conveniently upgraded to Sonoma... . I'm on a new Mac Studio with the M2 Ultra chip, I've only had it for 2 months or so, I'm contemplating wiping it and reinstalling/downgrading OS on everything again in the next week or two. NOT looking forward to that, as it took me about 3 days to get everything squared away when I got this thing. ProTools is functional, but I was getting a lot of crashes multiple times a day. No log report or anything acknowledging the crash, it was running one minute and the next ProTools just wasn't there. I upgraded to the newest version and that helped a little, now I'm only getting maybe one crash a day. I'm narrowing in on some repeatable things, there's a few plugins that if I try to "search" for them as opposed to manually finding them in the corresponding plugin section, I'll get a crash every time. I would say it's "manageable" at this point, but still not great. I would not recommend anyone upgrade. I'm always an OS or two back and just stick with it for a long time. I still don't know what happened, I was under the impression that your OS would not automatically update like that while the computer was stationary. Really frustrating, but I'm sure it was just incompetence on my part. Video work on DaVinci Resolve is worse. A film emulation plugin that I use on everything is just not happy, I've got autosave on for like every freaking minute. I really don't have the time right now to wipe and go back to the older OS, but I probably need to. It's SO incredibly frustrating that you have to wipe and start over to go down a version. Don't upgrade to Sonoma yet...

Well, then turn off auto update and update when you want.
Apple os updates don’t bring much value for audio recording, sort of non-events?

hmm strange one. it doesn‘t let me re-install ventura ( which it came with in 2021). it always shows me sonoma when i wipe and erase everything and try to reset to factory setting.

That’s weird, you should be able to re-install the original OS.,

Not certain if you checked video, in case you didn’t in synopsis, you have the os you want installed on a usb, and you wipe your mac and trick it into booting from usb and loading, in your case, ventura.

I didn't watch the video yet, but marked it on YouTube in case I decide to go down that rabbit hole. Loading the OS on a USB drive is something I've had to do in the past, so maybe it's not that bad. Good to know!
