I’ve been lurking here for a year now, might as well post. I go under the same name on “the other forum”. I’ll be reviewing the UF1 for TapeOp, along with the UF8 and UC1 as more of a complete “system”. Let me know if you’ve got any questions or are curious about something, I’ll be using them with ProTools and maybe the UA Apollo Console App.
The UF1 looks amazing, I’m really excited to see how the whole system fits together with software and plugins. Should be a lot of fun!

Should be a lot of fun! What's the latency on the UF8? Is it on top of the interface latency? I know it's a Mackie Control Surface but I've always had a problem with any faders getting far behind the audio coming out of the monitors, just like meters.

Desk space is tight next to the console, wasn’t sure if I could even make the UF1 work next to the console. You can configure the legs on the back of the interfaces in a lot of different ways, I was able to match the angle of my console almost perfectly. The other two units are obviously way too much, but right off the bat I can see the UF1 working well next to the console. I’ve been mixing a song with the SSL 4k plug-in on every track, buss compressor on AUX sends and master buss. It’s a lot of fun! Latency and response feels about the same to me as the D-Command I used to mix on years ago, no complaints initially. Attachments:

Just wondering how much I’d use it. Been ITB and using the ole mouse for years. It’s one of those things where - “will it take less time to just use the mouse?” I keep saying I’ll be all over the first controller where a manufacturer makes an effort to provide control mapping of plugins besides their own. You can already do that with the Avid S1. You need to use the iPad app though to configure it, but nevertheless it's doable. I have UA SSL 4k channel custom mapped to the S1 encoders. I spread it across two S1's so 16 controls per page. That packs all the filter and eq's into first page and then dynamics plus other stuff in second page. What would be nice is a way for plugin manufacturers to provide a more sensible default as the avid defaults for third party plugins is all over the place. Also if you're using an S1 in another DAW like Logic, I recall a way of saving a preset for the plugin and then tinkering with the plist file directly to assign the order. It's been awhile since I messed with that though.

I reviewed the UF-1 for the latest issue of TapeOp, I'll put a digital link below. They also sent me their UC-1 and UF-8 to demo their complete system. I've done a YouTube review of that where I basically set up a session, turn off the screen and mix a whole song using just the control surfaces and SSL plugins. It was a lot of fun! tapeop.com/reviews/gear/157/uf1-advanced-daw-controller/

Of course used SSL C100, C200’s and Axioms ard realativly cheap and offer a nicer user interface and honestly I think are pretty equal when it comes to sonics.
