It’s a beautiful console Benny with all the Tonelux errors ironed out. That was a Betamax vs VHS war. Tonelux made sense in that it was in 16’s but it should have been 500 modules like this in a finished console from the get go instead of the jigsaw puzzle that it was. Mine had transformers and his own class a DOA on every channel and sounded amazing but Alan Hyatt managed to destroy everything that was good and I couldn’t upgrade it. If only I’d waited 16 years….. Have fun and ditch the dodgy Arny Helios. They go for £2000 a module!

Too much time on that monitor does indeed jack up the neck! also, the console height isn’t set correctly yet; we gotta raise it about six inches, which is making that monitor look even more neck-destroying than it actually is!

He doesn’t have a good place to store them so they live in the desk till he (you guessed it) gets em sold.

Funny enough I suggested to booth Paul and later on Allen that a simple chassis with 11 slots of Tonelux faceplates lined up with 500 series would open up the system. Of course I still hear of at least one guy complaining that his favorite 500 series EQ won’t fit in an API ( Vison was built for a thinner face plate for those that don’t know) at least every 6 months.

I, too, love Lay’s potato chips. Just kidding, Benny! Looks absolutely fabulous!! I freakin LOVE lays Lays have the most outrageous flavors in SE Asia. Doritos too. Some just good, some secure the brand as elite, some are abominations. Bloody Mary Beef Doritos didn't make the cut for example. This thread is definitely a psy-op by our console manufacturer/dealer overlords. I want a console again too now, even more than I did a few years ago - a FIX or Origin. Not remotely realistic for my current room or budget but it's now in my daily thoughs. PS bgrotto what are your latest thoughts after more time with yours?

Amazing choice(s). What a delight it all must be. Not to be impolite but I would love to know how much a dream like that sets one back. Asking for a friend (no I really am, for better or worse I already have a console - actually so does he but after meeting Paul he’s thinking he should take the pain and make the switch to Fix)

Oh man...one of the things I miss most about touring is trying the different flavors of chips (er, crisps, for some of youse) the international community has to offer. A personal favorite of mine was the prawn flavored crisps in the UK. Yum! Anywho, loving the FIX more every day. Still haven't mixed on it, but I've been tracking basically daily on it since I got it and it's proven to be an incredibly potent tool. Sounds great, the workflow is awesome, and there's something about the ergonomics that feels immediate and intuitive over most other desks I've used. The tilt EQ is proving to be massively awesome in tracking, because I'm finding if I can't dial in the right tone with tilt and mic choice/placement, I just reconsider the latter, and that means less EQ inbound and much more thoughtful decisions about initial capture. The blend control is also proving more useful in tracking than expected. I'm not a big parallel compression guy, but man oh man when you have that blend knob on board, it really opens up some cool options. I got some INSANE piano sounds last week with that...

But I think a similarly spec'd setup would run between 35k and 40k brand new. You can easily reach out to Paul for info if you're really curious. He'll give you all the details with no hassle.

Thank you. I was just curious - I could always ask Paul myself but I have no reason to start that convo, and I know my friend is sizing up his own customized deal with him, I was just interested in what exactly what you have sets one back. By way of comparison, my little 8-channel Wunderbar with producer section and patchbay section added on came out to be more than 40.

Trader Joes' traditional potato chips are like mo' better Lays. You gotta try them. My console fantasy only comes into play if I had a room to put a band in first. I'd love to record drums, bass and guitars live again.

Finally got to do a mix on this thing. The process of rendering hw processing and fader levels, creating stems, and making easy and consistent recall was easy. The sonics were excellent. These danged parallel inserts keep proving their worth:ultimately I was able to do a fairly complex mix on just 16 faders plus the three st masters, thanks to the parallel insert architecture and the multiple inputs into each channel. Very cool.
Still eager for the next eight channels though. 24ch is gonna be the sweet spot.
btw i rekitted it with my own eqs - four each of ssl, kush electra, 550a, and electrodyne 511 😍

How do you find the 3 st master flavors? Also curious what you'd use the 511 EQs on over the others?

Great choice of EQ’s. I have a similar setup but a couple of lil devils and a few GR32’s. My groups have Level-Or’s, Singular Tubedrive, Bereich analog delays and a pair of the Pope Dirty C chorus.

I ended up putting drums and bass on STA A ('api'), then put guitars and vocals on STA B ('Neve'). STA C ('ssl') had a parallel guitar thing just barely in there. The 511s were on OHs and drum room.
