Well since your upgrading from the API and you like CAPI I say go with a bunch of Heiders!

That's awesome - his console seems like one of the very best possible modern options, especially for hybrid mixing workflows. Really well thought-out and the multiple flavor summing buses are compelling.
Is this one you're installed configured as one "bucket" for a single 500 slot per channel?
Curious what you'll fit it with!
I'd have a hard time not wanting 2 buckets, although it's upgradable to 2-3 at any point from my understanding.

Yup, one 500 slot per channel, which I will use for eq. But it is easily expanded “vertically” for more buckets. Though I’m more keen on a “horizontal” expansion to add more channels, when I can afford that (sadly it’ll be a while😂🤦🏻♂️)

Can't go wrong with the 511s. Have you tried an MA5? I've had both and everything I really liked the 511 on, I liked the MA5 a bit more. They are slightly more $$$, though....
Another vote for the VP28, as well.. Really great all rounder, though some of the extra features they have over the other CAPI units might be redundant with the console if you are trying to save some coin.

Those Electrodyne EQs always look so nice lined up. That's a whole lot of Helios too - how do you like the new H2 EQs vs the older Type 69?
Congrats, that's gotta be exciting!

I'm afraid I can't tell for sure what you have installed here. I'm seeing eight channels of a Helios Type 69...is that just EQ or a preamp as well? I'm guessing next four channels are API style pres? Then what is the large section below that? It really is impressive.

Right now it’s 8 anamod helios eqs, 4 Tony Arnold Helios tyoe69 pre/eq, and 4 electrodyne 511. Won’t be the final config, though. ericn There’s a REAAAALLLY nice custom made wood enclosure for it with a large and wonderful armrest. But said armrest was so large and wonderful that the damn thing wouldn’t fit into my car. I gotta get it later this week or month.

Cool man, congrats! Yeah Paul designed that monitor controller and it's really nice. I have one. Been eyeing this console for some time. You can start out with a few buckets and grow it from there. pretty slick!

Yeah, not that my budget would allow it, but here is the thing if I was in the position and from the few interactions I have had with Paul, a quick email to Paul, a couple of hours on CAD, a quick phone call to my metal working guy and the angles are different. Then send the files to Paul so he can save the next guy that time and effort.

Then send the files to Paul so he can save the next guy that time and effort. The fix angles are totally customizable. They can be made to nearly any spec the customer wants. The surface of this particular unit is insanely ergonomic; one of the most comfortable consoles I've worked at! Wouldn't change a thing.

I pulled a late one last night after my session to make a bunch of D-Subs to get it all hooked up, and got to use it today with the studio cue system. The fidelity in the control room was noticeably improved over the monitor section of the API, and I love the ergonomics of the console with the Avioms. Very, very groovy.

Did the API have you monitoring through 2520s? I’m not sure. I never popped the hood in the monitor section…getting into that 1608 is a massive hassle. I refer to it as “modular-ish”. The channels aren’t all individually accessible, and you gotta remove the knobs in some places to remove a faceplate before you can open it up. It’s rough.

Yeah we would call it “ semi modular and a major pain in the ASS! I would ask Paul while not involved directly with the 1608 I’m sure he knows as well as anybody.

At least from the block diagram it’s 2520s into output tx.

Spent Friday from 9am to 4am decommissioning the API, rewiring and moving the patch bay, and getting the new console installed in time for a freelancer’s session on Saturday. And today, I got to run this bad larry on its first full band tracking date 😎 It sounds so glorious.
