I don't buy audio gear off of eBay, no matter how great that deal is!

Does the shop listing this ever actually sell anything? Everytime I see something at a riduculous fishing expedition price it's them.

Yes Sta sales have stalled. Except for Rap/Hip Hop. In fact a brand new version is coming out. The "Original Gang-Sta" OG for short. Chris P.S. Sorry but C800G's/737's not included.

It's the same with everything. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but they're all just tools. There is literally ZERO reason to pay $30-300k for a compressor when you could buy something for a 20th of the price that essentially does the same thing. If I were independently wealthy, I could see getting into collecting guitars or maybe even mics...but good lord, we've lost our minds. Nobody would buy and maintain a 50s car to drive to work everyday. They’re projects for museums and rich bored guys. I have a 50's car! In fact once she see my car... It's over 50 Per Cent, this date is OVER. Chris

Things have seemed to finally turn the corner. I have sold a few things over the last 3 or 4 weeks. I sold some Purple Biz mic pre's and a few smaller items. I keep trying to find old gear I don't, or never will, use and sell it so I can fuel my GAS. It seems to be working.

A whole lot of the 1940’s-1960’s vintage I have has turned into big ticket items since i bought it. I’m a working engineer, and I rely on it to work. When restored, it’s proven more reliable than anything I buy new; reliability is one of the WHY’s in buying it in the first place. New shit comes and goes, fails faster, and is more likely to be unrepairable. FWIW, YMMV, etc.
There’s tons of vintage gear I can broker for owners, trouble is everyone wants full restored, and I don’t have that kind of time. If I did, it would all sell top dollar immediately. Every chance I get to broker something, that’s still the case. Much is going to working engineers.
Would I buy most of what I have again? Likely not based on current market value. I’ve sold tons along the way when it reached 10x what I paid for it. Much would be worth 20x+ now had I kept it, and it still woulda worked. I see stuff I used to own in larger working studios in instagram posts all the time. Occasionally something comes back for a repair, but that alone tells you it’s holding enough value both financial and as a tool to justify service.

So much new gear is destined for a landfill or to see a tech constantly unless modified. Many former stalwart manufacturers have spent the last couple of decades making unrepairable equipment.

Does the shop listing this ever actually sell anything? Everytime I see something at a riduculous fishing expedition price it's them. I've actually purchased from them. Saw an item listed on Ebay but went to their website and purchased it there. Now, it was probably 1% of the cost of that listing, but the transaction was good. But yea they have some pricey items, and some very rare ones.

There's someone selling a Vintage LA-2 (don't know the details) for over 15000 Euros. Might take a while to sell it.

I’ve purchased from him (RetroGearShop) in the past. His name is Mark. He’s a real straight up guy to deal with, and he’s also an under the radar (= better prices) dealer of ‘new’ gear from the namebrands we all know and love. Skip reverb and eBay. Go to his website and send him a note.

I don't begrudge a man on how he chooses to make his money, and for some of these items you're indeed going to have to go through them, but for anything I can find from other sources I'll vote with my dollar elsewhere. They're just the art dealers of gear, removing function and transforming into collectibility.
