Yeah - without EQ, the Warm really sounds pretty good. But once I started cutting with EQ, it was that chase your tail thing. You fix one thing and it reveals another two things. Like some of that low end is masking some not so beautiful mids.

Same issue with my 47jr. More actually since your Warm has a relatively flatter response. Chris

This is just more proof that you can’t really tell just by a solo track. It’s also Howell the mic/capsule reacts to EQ as well.

A lot of all this IS your voice. Very melodic/Lyric. If it were Steve Tyler (in his Prime) or Bon Scott (Let alone Howlin' Wolf) Way different. Chris You’d be surprised what sounds good on Steven! Hint: it’s literally anything. He’s a phenomenal singer. But we usually used a Brauner tube mic back when I was cutting vox with him, which didn’t hurt! I only recently got myself a 017, so I’m still learning it, but I reckon it would suit him nicely. It handles belting rather elegantly and seems to stay pretty even in tone across a really wide dynamic range. But it does have a rather pronounced proximity effect. Buildup around 200 or 250 is not uncommon, but it’s easily addressed with mic technique or a band of multiband compression. And in a lot of cases it can be something to really take advantage of instead of trying to mitigate. thanks for coming to my Ted talk. One question who’s Ted?

Like some of that low end is masking some not so beautiful mids. That’s the thing with budget clones, there is always something. Could you get the Warm to that point where it’s going to be that go to center piece. Yeah you could throw money at it and chase that dream, but by the time you get it to where the Soyuz is out of the box you probably will have spent more $ and a hell of a lot of time. Now the question is can you see yourself using it often enough to justify keeping it or dose the ease of just keeping the Soyuz up make more sense?

IMHO keep it. At least for 2nd string stuff ala BGV's or banjos. Occasional Lead. I've got a similar soft spot for my (usually) lesser mics. Stock Oktava 219 was my first "good" LDC. Sorta home rec/mic collection version of "Broadway Danny Rose". Chris P.S. Ironically my cheapest condenser, takes EQ better than any of my others under $300 new/$200-ish used. MDC AKG P120 (black) Excellent for when you want to "shrink" a vocal a little = Good BGV mic/occasional Lead. Takes Processing like a Chump-ahem Champ. Chris
