Trinnov’s new generation of products
Trinnov is pleased to introduce NOVA, the first of a new generation of pro audio products. NOVA will be coming to market after 4 years of extensive research and development across multiple areas.
“I am very excited to be able to finally reveal the extraordinary work that our R&D team has accomplished over the past 4 years in terms of hardware design, software development and user experience.” said Arnaud Laborie, CEO and co-founder.
NOVA differs from the previous product generation in that it’s PC-less. Trinnov’s new Audio Core utilizes an ARM processor that provides the computational power necessary for full Trinnov processing of a limited number of channels, without the need of an additional CPU or fans.
“NOVA will be introduced in the year of our 20th anniversary. This new platform enables us to address a wider market with more cost-effective solutions for stereo and small surround applications, and ultimately to support our continued growth as a business. We developed it with the same commitment to performance and sustainability as the previous platform. This includes the ability to develop and maintain the same software across both hardware platforms” added Arnaud Laborie.
The New Studio Essential
NOVA is set to become the new studio essential for music makers, providing 3 main functions.
Trinnov’s Optimizer is NOVA’s main feature. Trinnov’s exclusive room correction and acoustic optimization technology is acclaimed by the most renowned sound engineers and music producers. NOVA can process and optimize up to 6 channels, including bass management.
Nova is not just a digital acoustic processor, it is also a powerful monitoring controller with no limitations in mind. From choosing your speaker sets to creating all kinds of downmixes and alternate cues.
Finally, via the Dante Virtual Soundcard, NOVA can be used as an audio interface for direct DAW-to-monitoring integration.
Full product specifications will be revealed next week before the NAMM Show.
At NAMM, Trinnov will be exhibiting at booth 15718, with 7 representatives from the company attending to answer questions and demonstrate the product.
NOVA is expected to start shipping in June 2023.

So... What's the deal about Trinnov products ?
If one has absorption (passive absorption & active bass traps PSI AVAA in the corners too), dispersion (walls covered with books) and a hardware corrective eq before the monitors, what else can Trinnov provide ?
The price seems to become accessible. More people can start considering it.

The price seems to become accessible. More people can start considering it. It’s the most important piece in my mixing chain. The amount of absorption most would have to do to have a perfect bottom end isn’t realistic. It completely corrected the dips at 70-100hz and around 350hz for my room. The phase correction is a huge thing too. That being said, if your room measures flat and phase is correct then - not much.

I've never worked in a room that didn't have some mode issues. I sure wish I could though. I had heard that the Trinnov had a fair amount of latency which made monitoring through the DAW a non-starter. Has that improved? So far, Sonarworks is doing OK by me. A few bugs but latency isn't an issue.

I've never quite been able to wrap my head around these systems. Where do they go in the chain if I'm mixing on a console? Between the monitor outs and speakers? What if I am using subs?

Who wants to buy another processor?
I wonder if you just had the software silicon certified, if you could just run it on an m series mac.

That's a good point, but if it has good monitor control functionality I'd be very interested. I'd love to have a monitor controller that has two different correction curves, feeding two different sets of monitors, so that I could seemlessly switch between them without toggling software plugins back and forth.

Just thought it ironic to launch a closed processing box as UA makes its plugs native: think the closed architecture ship has sailed?

Think it requires too many resources to have the computer run it and everything else. Latency wise, I’ll have to look, but I think I’ve got it at like 256? It’s for mixing, so you wouldn’t use it while tracking…although since I’m monitoring via the Apollo while I track, I’m not hearing that latency. The Apollo is my interface to get into the computer. I have a Burl AD that connects via spdif, then I go out of the Apollo spdif (mirror analog 1-2) via a spdif to AES cable into the Trinnov. Then digital out of the Trinnov into a Burl DA. Everything has worked flawlessly. You can connect the Trinnov to your computer with an Ethernet cable and then reach the software via your browser.

Maybe, but its really just more software, anyway, I’m just curious, wonder what an m2 pro would do, I bet, run it just fine?

Nice to see, I'm looking into a possible Trinnov setup now. Just opened a new studio, with excellent acoustic design team behind it, but have a few lumpy control room issues that I would like to iron out with a Trinnov. Need more info on this in comparison with the ST2 Pro. I like that it is 1RU and especially the price reduction.
Edit - the ST2 range is being discontinued according to the website.

Every time I see this thing I think back to the first really accepted correction system the Meyer SIM. The one pictured at the bottom of the page doesn’t show the Measurement mic switcher, Multiple CP-10 linear Phase Parametrics or Lexicon PCM-42’s. www.audiomeasurements.com/?page_id=14

For me the key question is ....
Do you have a translation problem with your mixes?
If you do then you need to find out why and fix that issue, a Trinnov can be part of that solution.

If I'm reading this right, the Dirac is a tenth of the price of the Trinnov. I've never used software room correction but my room could be better for sure. Not sure I'm going to drop $3k on it right now (no big translation problems really) but if the Dirac would make a noticeable difference I'd certainly consider that.

Dirac is cheaper, but you have to decide how you want to run it, through the DAW ( least expensive but limits your routing) via Mini DSP ( great in expensive option but their own conversion is OK at best ).

Mini DSP's top of line "SHD" has very transparent conversion IMO. 'Working well for me. That plus the microphone and Dirac total less than half the cost of the NOVA. Someday I'd like to compare them side by side! www.minidsp.com/products/streaming-hd-series/shd?gclid=CjwKCAjwrpOiBhBVEiwA_473dBztL8AHPBFnQ0k7BOs2-ajx7PZS3Kzp3XstdOyyeX-hkCZ1bFoBMRoCgBUQAvD_BwE

See here is the difference between here and GS, here we can disagree without starting a war, next to the Mytek, Radar Grace and the Conversion in the Lexicon home theater box, I was disappointed with the Mini DSP, you find it transparent each to his own, but I will say I found the Trinnov’s conversion to be in the league of Mytek Lavry etc.

When I got my SHD the first thing I did was listen to my monitors without it patched in, then listened through the SHD set flat, and my monitors sounded the same to me. I know that's far from a proper A/B test, which would have been hard to do since I'd have to replug everything between listens, so a lot of memory is involved. But the good news is that the Dirac calibration was all done while monitoring through the SHD so it naturally optimized itself for itself!
