I guess everyone changes now and then or tries things to see what's up. I did some albums in Studio One. No problems really. Got the itch while gearing up for another to jump to protools - its the industry standard (they say). No problems. Had some CPU stuff but when I remixed in Reaper (super light on resources) I still had some issues. Guess I can't watch TV on the same MBP while mixing - lol.
Was going back to PT to get the ball rolling and bam, MixBus 32C 9.0 came out. I couldn't resist for $79. I saw an ad mentioning some updates to the visuals and wow, does it make a difference. Much better on the eyes, more contrast helps finding things quickly. then there were updates and expansion to the channel compression, updates to the 32C EQ code, updates and expansion on the drive - a lot of really good updates.
I always wanted to like MB32C but in the past, i just couldn't hang with it. After yesterday and tonight, that may change. On just under 30 channels, I only have 8 plugin instances with 3rd party plugs so far and man, the mix is already gelling nicely with some warmth and depth. I am very surprised. I think I am going to stick it out for this song and see how the automation goes. If that works well also, I'd be happy to mix here, even if I have to do editing in Reaper. Maybe it has matured enough to be a one stop shop. Time will tell.
I have always felt like a console approach kind of guy after years of plugin paralysis. Simple suits me.
Anyone else checking it out?

That's cool that you're digging on MixBus.
I personally don't get the DAW hoppers. But I think I'm the oddball.

But I think I'm the oddball. no. same here. started with cubase 25 years ago because a friend had it. after got logic because i bought a mac at work. and i am on logic for 18 years now. no interest/need in changing DAW. its „just“ a DAW to me, they all work.

That's cool that you're digging on MixBus. I personally don't get the DAW hoppers. But I think I'm the oddball. +1 I used Logic Platinum for 15 years - then Apple bought eMagic. That ended my desire to use Logic. I moved to Cubase and have never moved since. I like to get to the point I can use a DAW without any thought - kind of touch type music. The thought of learning a new DAW to that kind of depth would fill me with dread.

They all do. Once you learn when each one calls something, and a few shortcuts, off you go. I tell students all the time, it doesn't matter what DAW you're on. I couldn't agree more. Just the last year I've had an itch to try the field again. I've always used Reaper (20+ years) for recording and stuck it out with SO from 2-4 for mixing. Prior to the last 6 months, I would 100% agree with the sentiments shared about acclimating to another.

If I could take the Harrison ( ardour) mixer and stick it unto reapers….. I’d be in heaven. I love the inline console approach. Each section is its own module and I can flip the eq and compressor around. Add pre and post fader plugs. Just a dream. Too bad Harrison was crash fest for me on v7.

That's cool that you're digging on MixBus. I personally don't get the DAW hoppers. But I think I'm the oddball. I would have stayed on SO forever until I started running into stability issues that their support couldn't help me with. I still really like it but I think I'm Reaper for life now. Before that I was Logic for like 11 years. I only leave when there's something that is blocking me from getting work done.

Well, editing is as easy in SO or PT. Scrolling is solid, unlike Reaper. Double click to expand a track's height for editing, double click to put it back. Routing seems easier than other daws.
-edit-
scroll bar at bottom of edit screen screen takes of some space but shows all tracks (can see stripped sections, etc) and outlines the part viewable on the screen. You can scroll anywhere really fast with normal mouse movements or click and drag the rectangle (super fast). That's pretty slick.
Solo function is more natural for me, unlike Pt.

Routing in Reaper is a piece of cake. Comping is fine, not as easy as SO or Logic but also less prone to weird glitches or surprises. I’ve become very partial to the track controls on the left side of the screen. Often don’t need mixer view when combined with FP16.

Basics are here and enough for me. As for routing, I guess I don't know the routing matrix like I should. That's always taken the longest with me. The scroll L/R and U/D function is too squirrely for me in Reaper. Don't get me wrong - I love reaper for recording.

Apologies. I shouldn't dump on Reaper (or any DAW). Reaper has been a lifesaver at times and I have no desire to even appear to start a DAW war. Not my style - I just get excited when something is working well for me.
