I checked out the Pendulum Audio stuff at AES in NYC but never had it in front of me... At the time I was looking at great river, cransong, and DW Fern... I know their stuff is top notch but is is all super clean?

Wow. Lovin this pre. This is the sound I've been looking for for my daughters vocals. Paired this up with the R-84 at 60 db, no attenuation. Again Sta only, touch of HP on the Cubase strip and send FX. dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/65640533/Cover%201.mp3

Cowboy..which one you prefer? The Heritage or the Warm Audio?

joey808 I've yet to wear the new off the Heritage but it sounds awfully damn good. The Warm is mid forward and a tad hazy which just kills on guitar cabs. The Heritage seems to be better so far on clear voices. Sounds expensive.

Damn - that sounds great...just listening on the laptop, but the mids are tamed...sounds great! And no need to de-ess. That's what blows me away about it. It somehow reproduces the 5 to 7 k stuff without being a bit harsh. It really is a great amplifier.

The R84 is amazing for taming edgy mids and shrill highs. it's awesome on horns.

Looks great. If you are a company which takes requests, may I ask for a 2 channel all inclusive 1081 ala the AMS 1081 line only (eq included)? Just can't seem to afford $12,000 for 2 channels of the AMS but I dream of owning the 1081.

I was reading how some guys are really satisfied with the Heritage pre, and I'm beginning to take note. Even if I can't afford top of the line gear today, it doesn't mean I don't want to know where to aim my sites. I'm curious how this stacks up against the Heritage with the EQ, (does that really help when tracking?). I have the Warm Audio ToneBeast, and it's great to have, considering I used to plug straight into my Apollo. Thanks for posting your impressions cowboy, it does help me to learn how I might get the most out of a particular piece.
I use the TB on vocals set to the clearest setting.. x18 discrete amp, Nickel transformer around 11:00, saturation around 3:00. It definitely helps with a little smoother sheen, but it's subtle, which can be a good thing. But, that said, this frickin' thing sounds really, really good. It just reminds me of the tone I used to hear in studios. I didn't pay as much attention to brands when I used to record a lot in studios, mainly chose a mic, let the engineer worry about the details of tracking. But I do remember using SSL boards sounding very modern and rockin', and Trident boards, being huge and fat on the bottom. I'm sure I've used API at some point. The thing is, I recognize this sound, and it's pro, and I'd like me some of this.
I don't have a lunchbox, so I wouldn't know where to start.

If I had the coin, I would choose the Heritage with EQ...but I've owned both and honestly, I hear absolutely no difference in the 1073EQ and '73jr...

That's really helpful John, thanks. Now, why the EQ? Is it just such a good EQ, that you really want to dial it in right from the start? I can print with UAD EQ if I want to, but I've yet to try the Massive or the Pultec's for tracking. Would having the Jr. and finding a decent UAD EQ setting on one of those plugs get me near the Heritage with the EQ?
