What's the only thing worse than hearing the Worst Country Songs ever? Enjoying them. Chris

Well, any Stapleton…check out “Cold”…guess that’s not really country though. But freaking awesome. The new Lainey Wilson record is pretty badass. I like a lot of Hardy’s stuff. Zach Bryan is big right now. Regardless of whether you “like” the song, the songwriting “craft” has returned from inane crap - like - there’s stuff I hear and think, “shit. Wish I had thought of that.” And the production is really good…Cobb and Jay Joyce are doing fantastic work. Ok. I'll check those out. I do like Stapleton, though I agree that maybe that's not technically country, but so what. Ever get into Charley Crockett? I really like that guy. Colter Wall too. I'm sure that Tyler Childers and Sturgill are already on your radar, so no need mentioning them. Good buddy of mine tours with Charley Crockett. His stuff is great, but I wouldn't say he's been accepted by the mainstream country crowd. Another example, I played on some of the early Mike And The Moonpies records and, in those days, they literally couldn't get booked at the sawdust floor/rodeo type venues because they weren't "country enough". Seemed pretty country to me. Didn't make sense then, makes even less now (and of course those same places now pay out the nose to book the Moonpies). I'll never understand the genre purity tests. Also, if any of you don't know Mike and the Moonpies... fantastic. Great songwriters, great musicians. Real deal.

Killer hook. Is that a guitar through Leslie on the middle 8?

He's definitely on the outside, though I did see him at Willie's Picnic this last summer, so he does seem to be gaining some kind of traction. Good for him. He's more country than most of what is "mainstream" anyway, though, like you said, putting everything into specific genre buckets is maybe counterproductive. I know the Moonpies. I think I maybe saw them once at the White Horse, quite a while back though.

I don't understand why people would rather watch a chick crushing beer cans on her forehead than listen to a dude like Charley Crockett sing actual songs. But there's a lot of things I don't understand. Put it on the list.

Killer hook. Is that a guitar through Leslie on the middle 8? Thanks for listening…I asked for a Leslie on the solo. That was probably the third pass on it. That wasn’t a Leslie but it’s fucking fantastic. That might be my favorite solo I’ve heard from session guys - and I’ve heard a lot of solos. Btw - guitar players don’t like Leslie requests. I don’t know if they think it’s dated or what - but I’m of the opinion that Joe Perry solos were the shit.

I finally had a chance to watch the video from the first post. The thing I couldn't stop thinking about the whole time is that the singer looks a lot like Marjorie Taylor Greene. I don't mean that in any sort of political statement way, I swear -- I just mean that she physically reminds me of her to an eerie degree.
The next thing I couldn't stop thinking about was how at the end it said, "Directed by Katie Noel and Drake McGuire." As a videographer/filmmaker, I was like, "What? This was 'directed' in some way?" I mean, it looks like a bunch of her friends just got together in a muddy field and did as many tequila shots as they could before they fell over. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, I'm just saying I would be a little embarrassed to shoot that video and then claim that I "directed" it. Maybe I "observed" it, or was "present for the filming" of it, but "directed" implies forethought...

I think Joe Perry and Dave Mason should join forces together as the... Perry-Mason band. Well you be the judge. Chris

'Worst Country Song Ever' is only 4 pages I thought this thread was going to crash the RGO server.... I'm just sayin'.... I think there's a lot of looking at this thread without commenting . . . like the train wreck type of thing. You look, jaw drops, and just shake yer head. Silently.

Obviously they’re horrible songs in every genre.
The thing about this is, good country music kind of has an implicit integrity (or realness) to the emotions. At least that’s how I feel about it.

That moment when you know you should just keep your eyes on the road, but for some reason you slow down and can't stop yourself from looking.

What's strange to me is that the song is about redneck pride, but she's rapping using black rapper slang.
