I think it's a no-brainer to replace the question mark with an exclamation point in your thread title.
Based on your professional skillset, I just want to know: 1. Can this really be considered Country? 2. Can this really be considered a song?

Yep. Clint’s expression pretty much sums it up.

Yeah this is really bad. Sadly, I’m pretty desensitized to stuff like this at this point. TikTok and IG have made me completely numb to cringe content. It doesn’t even phase me anymore. The first thought when I hear anything this horrid is, “Well, whatever they’re doing, I hope it works for them.”

I think it's a no-brainer to replace the question mark with an exclamation point in your thread title. Based on your professional skillset, I just want to know: 1. Can this really be considered Country? 2. Can this really be considered a song? Well, it’s actually pretty 2017. Nobody is really doing this now… I kind of checked out around then songwriting wise because it was more of this than serious songwriting. But - I had a client that made me listen more to current stuff at the end of last year and honestly, it’s gotten soooo much better. Like - there are some commercial songs that make me feel like I felt when I got to town…”damn, I better up my game.” I was at the CMA’s when Stapleton and Justin Timberlake did TN Whiskey in 2015 and I thought - “holy shit - that just immediately changed everything.” I thought it was going to be an overnight change for the better. But it wasn’t. It has taken 7-8 years for kids to be influenced by that more than freaking rap. So - long answer to your question, no - that isn’t representative of what’s happening now in country music. But the world thinks it is.

This made me go watch that performance again. Really might have been the best CMA performance ever. My wife has worked at CMA for decades so I’ve been to a bunch - and I’ve never thought there was another one that transfixed the crowd like that. JT at the end was as good as it gets.

Oh, I’d totally forgotten JT was a musician, I tend to think of him as an actor these days.
He definitely a great singer!

Yeah after posting that you had to redeem yourself with Stapleton and JT!
So often it’s not about the music it’s all about the packaging: Cute kind of country girl, old F150, Yeah she just might sell and if she sells she can sell some tight jeans and do a truck ad. It’s not about the music, it’s about creating celebrity, yet everyone knows who Chris Stapleton is go figure.

That’s chick is definitely not a Nashville creation. Although, she’s the product of bad Country music grooming.

This is like Kid Rock but worse. BWAHAHAHAH Perfect! Oh, I’d totally forgotten JT was a musician, I tend to think of him as an actor these days. He definitely a great singer! He's talented and seems pretty dedicated. Very old school "triple threat." Yeah after posting that you had to redeem yourself with Stapleton and JT! I was thinking the same thing!!

I think the reality is for the most part we are past someone being a Nashville, NY, Vegas or Detroit creation, kind of sad when you think about it. Of course when I read this post I thought of the scene in one of the Bond films with the Bad Russian girl trying to sing American pop. I mean this girl could be from Georgia, either one😎.

They're doing their best to let you know she's from Kentucky, The guitars? I think 1984 Scorpions called and asked for their tone back. Great playing, just the tone is about enough to make the ghost of Malcolm Young come visit and yell "turn down the fecking gain"!

Yeah this is really bad. Sadly, I’m pretty desensitized to stuff like this at this point. TikTok and IG have made me completely numb to cringe content. It doesn’t even phase me anymore. The first thought when I hear anything this horrid is, “Well, whatever they’re doing, I hope it works for them.” I know how you feel. I would have had a much stronger reaction in the past. If she's happy and her fans are happy, hell yeah. But now I need a palate cleanser.
I've worked on some vine kids' singles in the past that I think compete with this one.

Nu Country. 65k views in 5 days. Even if the comments are all negative, she’s doing better than me. Edit: 40 million plays ($140k) for one of her songs and 400k monthly listeners. She’s doing WAY better than me and most of us here. Even if the song sucks.

I stopped after the first line. The Scorpions reference is spot on. I saw them in 1984 fwiw and that was by far the loudest concert I have ever been too. Couldn't hear anything but "wwwwwww" in my ears for three days. Shoulda gone to another of their concerts before pushing play on this video.

The need for making a living puts some good musicians in a compromised position. The playing would make you think something important is being said, dynamics, drama, volume, strong beat, etc. It's well produced junk food. And then the silliness begins, appropriated bad rap, ugh..
I guess there's an audience for almost anything these days, if you can reach them.
