Always a challenge for a successful entrepreneur to find their new place in a bought corporate setting ?
Sounds like the kind of guy who will land on his feet, wonder if his team will stay ?

Nah they just really want the name and he sold that to UA. Im kind of surprised he lasted as long as he did, the rumor always was he split with Soundelux was because he just didn’t fit in the corporate culture. It’s always hard for someone who is used to doing things their own way to suddenly have someone who can say “ no”. Don’t get me wrong many can benefit from this type of structure many can’t. Since UA is more or less trying to put it out there that he was not part of the layoff, Im going to bet there is some kind of no- compete clause in the UA- Bock deal.

I’m certain DB wouldn’t join Behringer. I do wonder who Behringer will absorb next though .. SSL maybe - that would surprise me. I once passed on a Bock 250 for $1K something to this day I regret!

If he had quit, I'd agree on the whole corporate culture thing. But he was let go. So UA made that decision. If acquiring Bock was part of UA's long term strategy, I would have thought keeping David around was part of that strategy, no?

Well Drew’s comments are pretty clear that he was laid off, seems likely, he was well paid, so vulnerable ?

Wait, so he was let go as part of "normal/typical macro economic/business cycle activity," but they're still going to sell Bock-branded mics? I hope he gets a percentage of sales along with some kind of severance pay.
Obviously, there's not enough info to draw any conclusions here, so I don't mean to jump the gun or judge UA unfairly. But it doesn't look too great at the moment.

You're one of the few in the industry I count on for unbiased factual information on the "goings on". I don't expect any Press Release from UA that wasn't vetted by their board, management, Public Relations team and Legal department and will not contain the nitty gritty details. Meanwhile, David Bock will continue to present himself as a dignified person in the field. I think we all respect that. I met and spoke with him a couple of times. I think Shannon introduced us.

I'm not familiar with this end of the business (production/manufacturing) at all, but you would hope that the amount he sold the name and IPs for would more than cover the possibility he would be let go down the road. That noted, it wouldn't be the first time people in any creative industry are not the best represented when it comes to legalese.
Here's to hoping everyone ends up happier at the end of the metaphorical day when all's said and done.

I’m reading into “ his characterization is not true at all.” That was crafted by a lawyer, it would not surprise me if they let a bunch of people go and Dave left in protest. They are covering their ass on this one.

After his separation from Soundelux, the post house I’m sure Dave has a very good legal team. Remember they later negotiated to use the Soundelux branding for the lower end mics, trust me that was not a handshake, written on a Napkin deal.

I appreciate you sharing this. The comments from U.A. are going to be EXREMELY important from hereon in. They've made some good strategic moves but also made a few errors Missteps in the industry right now could be very damaging. The industry isn't out of the battlefield yet. With supply chain issues and expanding threats from cheap knock-offs, there isn't much room for bravado and strutting around like the proverbial cock of the walk (relax, rooster reference) just yet.

That was pretty fast. I wonder if he will retire, or wait out the non-compete time and start another company. Does he have a son or daughter who could open a company where he's the shadow designer?

For sure, I'm definitely not trying to suggest he was never paid — I guess I'm just hoping he continues to be paid fairly for UA using his designs.
Something rubs me the wrong way about UA buying David's life's work, employing him for a year or two, and then terminating him due to "normal business cycle activity." But again, I'm already jumping the gun a bit here. I should probably hold off until there are more details.

I could be wrong, but I thought the initial announcement about the purchase had already suggested he would be around for the transition, which reads like.....short term. Maybe shorter than he thought.

Dang…the UA/Bock mics aren’t even out yet are they? No... they're not out yet. I preordered one immediately and they've missed ship dates about 3 times now? Last I heard was February but that was some time ago... I hate to be this cynical but my gut says those two moves have to be related. Remember upon announcement they said shipping fall 2022. I was supposed to have the mic before Halloween. This is real? He's gone? I'm cancelling the order. Full stop. I'm out. I don't "need" the mic... the whole reason I ordered in the first place was because of David & a desire to get in early... grab a low serial number from day 1 while he's there overseeing the works. What's going on over there that the guy "hired" to run the microphone program & beyond is gone before serial number #001 even ships?? Personally not feeling any good time happy vibes here. Damn. What a buzzmer.

UA bought his company, so it’s UA’s now. Obviously, the deal was acceptable to Dave cus he agreed . Some sizeable, cash up front and perhaps an ongoing % of each mike sold may have been the deal, but who knows: Dave and UA, that’s who !!?

Very standard practice, in almost every industry: we buy your company, keep you around for a while because, well your the company, you know everything from how to make the capsule to who to call if the HVAC fails and where the plunger is; good will, people like you they really like you. At some point it usually just doesn’t work, and it usually isn’t pretty. Now here is something to remember, Bill Putnam didn’t invent the LA2 or 1176 HE BOUGHT THE COMPANIES!

Well that's a shame because I was looking to replace my U67 with the a UA Bock, now I'm just looking at other mics.
