Willie's Teatro. That's my favorite Lanois produced album ever. That’s such a cool record. There’s a little documentary from those sessions that I saw once in the DVD days, I wonder if it’s on streaming.

I would love to watch it again if I knew where to find it. As for the album itself, the reverb that is providing the general ambience is just beautiful. I wonder if that was room mics, one of Lanois's hardware reverb/delay units or a combo of both. Not that you might want that kind of reverb/ambience all the time but, for those times that you do want that sort of thing, that record stands out for me as sort of a benchmark for that kind of ambience and sound. Also, I just love that record, in general. Willie with TWO drummers. How cool. Teatro is one of Willie's best.

It might be interesting to listen to the Neil Young record(s) made in that space for comparison. Obviously they’re going to sound different, but could be a fun exercise.

I knew Neil Young recorded Le Noise with Lanois (were there other albums they did together?), but that wasn't done at the Teatro location. It was done at Lanois's house. To my knowledge, only the Teatro album was done at that theatre location.

This is stuff NY did with Promise of the Real backing him. Oh, and there’s a video! Cool, will watch later:

I just was pretty sure that NY hadn't done anything with Lanois at the Teatro location. I'll have to read up on production of those Promise of the Real albums.

I'm really wanting to find a way to watch the whole thing now. It just doesn't seem like it's available to stream anywhere. I may just have to buy the DVD.

Well when a popular sandwich gets named after you like with Rick... You know you've "made it"! Looks like a great Thread, worthy of study. I'll review all this soon. Been kinda busy. Thanks guys, Chris

How many people have made multiple records with Lanois? Bob Dylan did! Although supposedly they did not get along at all. Like Dylan smashing guitars level did not get along. Results were good though.

How many people have made multiple records with Lanois? I've heard stories from his assistant engineer Trina Shoemaker where he just sounded like a complete monster. Obviously U2, but not many others. Peter Gabriel, Dylan (already mentioned). Really, his longtime relationship and collaboration with Brian Eno is the thing that most stands out as evidence of someone who found a way to be in ongoing productive dialogue. Well, that and the extensive U2 history.

Yeah, I've heard stories too, which made me think in spite of his genius he may be a bit of a diva. I'll tell you though, Lanois' gear interview on RIG RUNDOWN was humble, charming, giving and incredibly insightful. He left no stone unturned as he explained every nuance of his guitar, steel, and backing track setup, right down to the exact settings on his Korg delay. Often artists of his caliber leave the rundown to their guitar tech, but here he was explaining EVERYTHING himself with zero desire to keep secrets. I admire that.
