The RE16 is my favorite mic that I own. It’s good on almost anything.

The RE 10/11/15/16 are virtually the same mic. As Doug mentioned, the 10 and 11 are rumored to be lower-tolerance capsule versions of the 15 and 16. The foam surroundings are a little different in each, with the 10 and 15 being quite similar and the 11 and 16 also being quite similar. I have two RE-11s, and I love them. I remember hearing a drum mix a couple years back that someone did where they miced the entire kit only using two of these (don't remember whether it was 10/11/15 or 16), and man, it sounded great to me. Certainly had a "sound," and didn't sound "modern," but I thought it was great. YES! We are brothers in "11". Many years ago, I bought 4 RE11s off of ebay for about $60/each. They were from a college/high-school (I forget which) and were quite old and a little beat-up. I cleaned them up easily -- they are damned-near indestructible -- and when I spoke with a young guy from EV he told me: - All the old EV cats are gone now, but they passed on some of their knowledge of the older mics... - The 10/11 series were made from 15/16 capsules that didn't meet matching specs. They are fine capsules, mechanically, but don't have responses that were within tolerance He sold me some of the last internal windscreens that they had on stock and let me know that, according to my serial numbers, all my mics had all received new capsules in the early 200s, and were essentially RE16s. However, I think RE16s have humbucking coils in the, and the RE11s don't. I'm not really sure about that though. I sold 2 of the 4, for about $90/each -- I wish I had held onto them!

Sold my 15/16's in the $150 to $200 zone. Largely as the other dynamics I have, suit my voice better. Chris

I used to be A EV whore Back when they were cheap.I had pairs of RE10s 15s 16s 18s 38s and the wonderful 55s . Regretfully I sold most of them off . Just a pair of 15s one 16 and a 38 left.
Seems like every EV mic I've used can be "meh" one day and holy shit the next

As I understand it, that's basically the sound of the drums on The Band's self titled album recorded in Sammy Davis Jr.'s pool house. I think there were EV mics used all over the place.

I didn't know that. Very cool. If you Google for pics of those sessions, you can definitely see some RE15s up in different locations. and on today’s (and several other) singers you’d be hard pressed to tell which was which. Much of the essential midrange quality is the same. The RE-16 won today, as it hid some snotty nasal treble qualities that were slightly more present in the 67. I could match gain and comp between them just fine. You can use the 16 in the live room with drums, the 67 not so much. FWIW! It all depends on what (acoustical) precautions you (can allow to) take.

The main thing about 635as and RE-15s is that they never get dropped on their nose.

Had a hard rock drummer in with 4 toms, put RE-16's on the 2 high toms, pretty close to cymbals, excellent off axis sound there too.
