Quick search found 35% off last year for Black Friday and it looks like it was $29 in 2020

Seen this on some mixes I’ve gotten in. Wondered what it was. Need to check it out. I sometimes find that these kind of plugs are kindve “is that better or worse - I can’t tell.”

Well, it basically analyzes the sidechain input ( say vox) in 32 eq bands and then reduces only those same freq in the rest of the mix in real time.
You have an attack and release and low and high pass filter so you can tailor the effect exactly where you want in terms of freq, leaving the rest of the mix untouched: this can be augmented with ms as well.
The gui is simple but useful.
There is a large percentage control 0-100, so you , like setting a compressor go big then back it off and with the A and R finesse the envelope, so the making, of say the vox more pronounced actually occurs by subtly lowering in real time only those freq in the rest of the mix the vocal was fighting with: less is more !

Just trying it out. Kinda like it. Was nice putting it on Harmonies so they don't futz up the vocal. Doesn't take much - like 7%. One thing I noticed. The sidechain is capped at bus 26...when you click on the sidechain in PT, it only has Bus 1-26 listed as options...I have more busses than that. Like to put it on kick and bass, but with all the processing I have on the bass, I run out of delay comp.

Hmmm...tried it on EGs so they wouldn't rub with the vocal, but it just dug too much out even on like 2%...this is one of those you could get into trouble with.

Honestly didn’t know anything about it. Looks cool. Do they have Black Friday sales? Cassette is the second best tape plug after Satin too! Just don't select the metal cassette because then it's set totally wrong!

Maybe I’m using it wrong because anything over like 10% is just way too much.

So it’s basically a ducker that’s running on 32 independent eq bands, keying off of what you select is the track you want to “make room for”?
Interesting.

Maybe I’m using it wrong because anything over like 10% is just way too much. Did you try adjusting the attack and release controls ? That will smooth it out.

Bought it like three years ago, maybe? Have pulled it up to do a thing or two but overall, no. Ducking the bass with a kick gets challenging fast. Great concept though.

From memory they were the first to do this some years back, I was using it a lot when doing pop sessions getting cluttered 2 tracks that needed space for vocals or to help kick and bass play nice. The Izotope unmask is basically the same concept and I think a few others also make similar tools. John, if even that little amount is too much try reducing how much you're sending to the side chain.

I love it, personally. Great for getting some space for vocals and leads while still leaving everything sounding “full” when they drop out, especially if there isn’t time or much leeway to carve the frequency space out of what you’ve got to work with. I can go as low as 5% for really subtle applications, but mostly I start at 20% and adjust to taste. Dialing in the filters instead of defaulting to full range (unless that’s what’s needed) can really help too.

Sort of related: their Watkins Copicat delay sounds great.

Looks cool. Some of their kontakt libraries loop dope too. Uke sounds pretty good. Accordion seems killer (especially for a guy in an Irish band).

Been using it on Bass for years but will ofc work on anything you'd like to SC. It's a great simple plugin, highly recommend it!

demo'd on a mix today. good stuff for getting rhythm guitars to duck around leads, but even 2% was too much to duck a bass when the kick hits came.
i'll prob still buy if it goes on sale

I got it on a sale last year. I've used it here and there, and I find it useful when needed.
