It's really out of hand this year. Now we have a supposedly hardware accurate Sontec, this game-changing Massenberg, a bunch of other new stuff, then record low UAD prices. I'm sure Waves and PA are putting out a bunch at rock bottom prices too. For me, I have to stay grounded and try not to jump on the hype wagon. $400 for UAD, $200 for Big Sky, $339 for Massenberg, $200 for Sontec, then whatever else pops up. Who knows, maybe another groundbreaking release pops up tomorrow and then it's "oh damn, now I need another $200 for this one". In the past, I made a lot of use of, and still have a lot of use for things that I got during Plugin Month and Pluginmas. You go and read threads about past new releases, and everyone is all euphoric then too. To be fair, a lot of stuff released in the last few years are still top of the class. But it seems everyone is getting in on the "most transparent compressor ever" trend. First it was Weiss. So many talked like it was the end all be all. "Better than any plugin or hardware". Then it was Unisum. Now it's Massenberg, Abyss, and maybe one more I'm forgetting. For all we know, next week some reverb could drop that will have everyone saying it beats the Bricasti hardware. Then we got all these sales deadlines. I just said "screw it" with trying to test and buy everything and got the BX20 since it made a big difference and then the UAD LA2A since it was cheap and its quality reminds me of Fusion to a degree. Mainly in terms of not having the plugin dull flatness that so many have. If I buy these and decide not to use them much, it's not a huge loss of cash. If I throw a grand at a bunch of stuff and something new comes along that's even better in 6-12 months, then it's kinda a bad move to spend a lot now. I'll probably test the Sontec when the Windows version is released unless they offer some huge discount to buy it before its out. I already know I love the Sontec sound and given what I hear vs the IK and Scarlett, it will be something I want. This is always a good time to revisit stuff you already own and haven't used in a while. It's often surprising how effective something you already own can be when you've made changes in your methods and/or plugins/hardware since you last used it. I realize this goes completely against the point of your post... But, thank you for reminding me to pickup the Seventh Heaven Reverb while it's on sale! Modelled after the Bricasti M7 – ha! Seventh Heaven is sort of a must-own though. I still use it on most of my mixes, but never as the main effect. Plus, Matt updates it from time to time with legit improvements. Calculated buying here makes sense.

Remember too that Reverberate 3 comes with the same Bricasti IRs that Seventh Heaven does, but offers a world of other possibilities, as well.

Edit: I see that it is..... now I'm tempted by the Reverb suite bundle for 579$.
Anyone take the dive on that one? Maybe its too much reverb for one man to handle.....

bgrotto recommended that Ursa Boost on the other site. It's on sale now and a wonderful little plugin that goes from slight perceived detail increase to modern broadcast, 2000s full loudness war white noise wash of sound depending on how far you turn the big knob in the middle. I'd get it if I didn't just buy the MDWDRC.

Though as I also mentioned on the purple site, MDW is a massively more flexible tool and is ultimately probably the better choice for the serious professional. Boost's main strength is its speed and ease of use, but it can be a bit limited in what it can do due to that.

Anyone take the dive on that one? Maybe its too much reverb for one man to handle..... I know that Seventh Heaven and Reverberate 3 are high quality from personal experience, and I hear nothing but great things about Cinematic Rooms. But…I think at some point, it is too much reverb. I have so many, and after boomeranging around or getting caught up in the sound of a new one I find I keep coming back to the same handful of verbs. Little Plate, Valhalla Vintage, R4, some EMT 250, Lex 224, and chamber impulse responses. More recently CLA Epic for very specific drum sounds.

I went and got Cooper Time Cube too since it was so cheap and really helped me widen vocals in ways I’ve been trying to get other stuff to do for a while. UAD FX plugs have been great for a while and never are a bad investment. Looks like they extended the sale too. If that Windows version of the Sontec pops up, that will be next on my list to test.
UAD-X is a big reason I’ve even considered getting more UAD. Really helps with the CPU cycles. Barry Johns seems to think DSP is irrelevant, but I highly disagree. Like I was saying in a Hitsville thread, Hitsville is as good as Atlantis Dual and I can’t run four Atlantis without the cpu running out. The best processors have 100% more single core power and I’m not sure that’d allow me to run a ton more of those.

And only yesterday I posted here that I was going to be strong and ignore all Black Friday sales - now I've just succumbed to Fuse Audio Labs' VQA-154 EQ. Dagnabbit! That’s a great one! I’ve been resisting buying the few Fuse plugins I don’t own because they are very redundant to what I already have, but that EQ is special. I also really like the VPRE-562A…it does a great job of adding some grit to a DI Wurlitzer, and the VQP-582A can sometimes be the icing on a cake on the mix buss…a nice alternative to something like a Maag EQ. Ironically, it was someone else here recommended the VQP-258A for mix bus duties that led to me revisiting it, as I hadn't realised just how many subtle curves it was capable of, and that in turn led me to finally demo the VQA-154 this time round, as that had also gained high praise here. It's good to share!

In case you haven’t been on ua site recently.
Pick Any 2 plugins Custom Bundle for $149 was added to the store.
The $25 holiday coupons can be used on it so it's really Any 2 plugins for $124.
I checked and all plugs are available, new Hitsville verb for $62 down from $399: ain’t too shabby.

See what you mean. There are actually a couple of other Fuse plug-ins that seem susceptible to a sizeable DC offset (VPRE-376 and VPRE-562A), but the VQA-154 really doesn't like it at all EDIT2: other saturation/preamp plug-ins that are as senstive to DC on the input as VQA-154 include KIT plugins Burier & TDR SlickEQ (this one surprised me, although it only happens with heavy use of its output stage options).

The fuse plugins mostly have modeled input and output transformers so DC offset causes them to saturate more. Asymmetric distortion to get even order harmonics produces dc offset and plugins and gear without a modeled output transformer or high pass/dc offset remover will produce dc offset.
You need to construct a non- linear plugin insert chain that sounds good because it is replacing a rack of analog gear.

Looks like Soma is on sale at plugin-alliance. I missed BF deals, hard to know if their 75% drop (400 to 100) is the max it will go in the near future, was hoping it would go a little lower. Between this and TDR lathe, I'm spending more than I planned on plugins this season.

Between this and TDR lathe, I'm spending more than I planned on plugins this season. There's a code to get it for $30 through tomorrow: XMAS22-SOMA Add one of the $8 pedal emulations to the order and you can use my monthly $25 off code with a min spend of $32: 2022-12-25SG9P2Q3iTw27e That'll get you Soma and a stomp for $13. If you have any troubles, I got a spare license I can transfer for the same cost.
