I don't know if there will be any more reviews at this stage from Youtube or review channels, I am organizing a Fairchild 670 shootout but it will probably come out after we have sold out this batch already. Still cool to have around. I expect (hope) there will be several organic user reviews in the next few weeks. So far everyone is stocked (myself included) with how beautiful this compressor sounds. Second question . . . does my 50% discount coupon from back 5 years ago still apply?

Starting to see people on FB ordering and mki owners getting the discount.
Considering the feedback I’ve heard from a couple of Stamchild mk1 owners was glowing, and knowing the cost of two other 670 clones are twice the price, It seems hard to beat this Stamchild mk2 for the cost/build with its addition of the DC threshold, and the mix knob it already had. I love the mix knob on another hardware piece I have.
POM’s Fairchild is a similar price with original xformers and custom features.

How does one even know whether to buy the POM II or the Stam II? It is not like there are that many places with both (if even one) in the whole world? And it is a lot of space and weight to compare both!

And it is a lot of space and weight to compare both! We were going to have a couple Stamchild MK2's demo units going around the US for people to test but since it has almost sold out there is not point at this time. Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase and can be sent to our local tech in the US or Canada (not back to Chile).

stam or anyone else, I'm looking for some clarification on the Lat/Vert mode. I just got my 670MKII (it's a beast!). The only thing more beastly is Stam's above and beyond packing job. Took me a chunk of time just to unpack it. Kuddos to the Stam team on that one. I'm putting the unit through it's paces, just to make sure everything is operating as it should. My first question pertains to mid/side or Lat/Vert. Lat = mid and Vert = sides. At least, that's been my understanding. Left channel controls/meters the mid and right channel controls/meters the sides. As a test, I solo'd a kick drum, panned center. On the Stam, I get gain reduction on the Left (mid) channel. By comparison, I get gain reduction on the UAD 670 on both channels, same mode (though the settings need to be wildly different to achieve same GR). Now, to test the side (Vert) channel, I panned the kick hard left. I barely get any reduction, same settings as mid. Actually, I get similar GR in BOTH channels now. In mid (Lat) mode, I get -2db. In side (Vert) mode, I get maybe -.5db. At least according to the needle. I understand that the meter represents push/pull of current, rather than true GR. But you get what I mean. So, it seems the side channel is compressing less at the exact same compressor settings as the mid channel?

Hey stam and all, I'm following up on my previous post about lat/vert mode. I made a couple of videos showing what I'm talking about in my last post. Hopefully this is useful. I emailed this to Josh but wanted to post it here in case their are others who may have more insight than me into this. Stam 670 video 1Stam 670 video 2

So you're just backwards is all there. Think X and Y axis. I don't have one, but when it's operating in M/S mode does it encode it to M/S and then reencode to stereo? Or is it outputing M/S and you need to re encode it?

The original didn't have an MS encoder in it, to the best of my knowledge... when was MS developed and first presented as a viable pseudo-stereo recording technique?

The standard Fairchild Sowters are not as loud as Fairchild spec. Looks like this version has gone a long way towards fixing that and more. This looks beastly.

I emailed this to Josh but wanted to post it here in case their are others who may have more insight than me into this. Stam 670 video 1Stam 670 video 2The manual says that the mid side (lat-vert mode) does not affect the input level knobs behavior. Input level stay left and right, it does not handle mid and side level, even when you're on the LAT-VERT mode. So that might explain a bit. In Lat-vert mode, the rest of the controls become effectively mid side but not the inputs. A bit limiting in term of application, yes, because you might want to boost a bit the sides sometimes, but it's not really possible within the Stamchild. And that's also how the original Fairchild behaves. It's all in the manual. I hope it helps.

Paul, Benny and Gene have all been welcome additions to name but a few and their work a welcome addition to my Apple Music Library.

Occasionally I peruse the purple site and see how many people get mistreated over there, including those you've named. Every thread degenerates into a 'taking the piss' fest. Glad it isn't ike that here.

I still think the biggest factor is so many of us have actually interacted in the real world or at least outside of the public forum.
