Hey everybody- 1st post. In all the videos I've watched of the IGS Tubecore, I've never seen anyone really crank the gain knob. Is this knob for input gain, which you could use to drive the tube like a Sta-Level? Or is it makeup gain like on an LA2A? I downloaded the manual, but it's a bit unclear to me.
I'm not sure if this helps at all (and you my have already seen it) but in this IGS video at about 4:12 he cranks the gain on the Tubecore all the way up. He's in M/S mode when doing it so it only effects the side. May be of little value to you but thought I'd mention it.
Am I nuts or does it go completely silent when he cranks it? The whole signal seems to go away. Wtf? Does he turn the mid down? Either way, I can't hear any distortion that's anywhere near what I hear when they crank the 500.

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but somebody finally posted a video where he cranks the gain on a Tubecore 3u, and yes- it gets super crunchy and beautiful! Thought you'd all like to see/hear it. I now think this unit might give me everything I want.

Is a Millennia Media TLC-2 not the right vibe for that application? Millennia is pretty clean and smooth. I've never tried to push it dirty, but I don't think it's what he's looking for here. A pair of Wight Tanks may do it though with the drive circuit engaged.

The Tegeler VTC is upset you haven't called. It breaks up and snarls nicely if you drive it hard.

I have a Thermionic Phoenix Mastering Plus and one of the many reasons I went for it over the IGS unit was it sounds truly glorious when you drive the inputs.
To my ears it can do what my Retro STA Level does but in stereo.
