The Helios Channel H2 Audio is proud to introduce the ultimate channel strip, “The Helios Channel”, featuring the 0011 mic pre/ Eq paired with the H760 compressor/Limiter. Also featuring an instrument direct input that utilizes the Acme Audio Motown DI transformer and circuit that is switch coupled directly to the 0011's mic input. Additional features include a Stereo/Channel switch that allows The Helios Channel to be operated either as a channel strip or as an independent Mic/pre EQ and Compressor/limiter. On the other site, someone said that the rack versions of the H2 stuff sounds better than the 500 stuff due to higher voltage...
Either way, cool pieces.

There was a comment on this site that the H2 500 pre didn’t sound as good as the H2 Audio priority rack version . If I’m not mistaken the property rack version runs 32 volts?

Yes. I’ve had both. Think it was more to do with them having different input transformers. Although I suspect the 32V makes a difference too. I returned the 500 because I thought it was a little pinchy in the upper mids. The full sized 0011 doesn’t have that and is exceptional.

The lustraphone clones in the Olympic 500 modules sound great. NOS germanium, 4 op amps and all discrete. Check them out if you get a chance. Jim Dowler has done a great job.

They’re based on the original Olympic console modules that Dick designed that preceded Helios. It’s Germanium instead of silicone and is the sound of all those 60’s records from The Stones, The Who, Hendrix and Led Zep etc. They can be very clear and atmospheric or can be driven into distortion beautifully. www.audiodigitaltechnology.com/Mic%20EQ/There are no ic chips in these.

Wow those do look great! What are you tracking with them? I’m guessing drums? How do they differ to something like a 1073 or the Coil 70 which I’m currently using? Thanks

The 500 H2’s seem to have a bog standard Cinemag and not the “Lustraphone” that the bigger model has which probably explains a lot too. The Olympic 500 modules having a genuine Lustraphone sound huge.

Thanks I’m tracking everything with them. They make a great compliment to the 1084 or the Coil’s. Listen to Sympathy for the Devil and that’s the sound. It’s amazing on vocals which is what I’ve been tracking most. I need to buy some more very soon.

Thanks, it sounds like it’s a very cool pre/EQ and great alternative to have on hand.

I’m using the Pre/Eq version and it sounds superb, the whole thing works great. I’ve opened mine and they’re exactly the same as the picture’s on the website. Really nicely done. I’m planning on ordering more.

Wow these look sharp! Anyone into the Helios thing should also check out the Iron Age Audio H9. They’ve become my go-to pres for a lot of things, obviously great on rock guitars but where I really love them is acoustic instruments and vocals! Somehow matt@IAA managed to cram the pre & eq into an affordable 500 series and they sound superb

I just love Audio channel strips. wouldnt mind trying one of these but i have never used this f760 compressor before. Is this compressor the adr compex 760 compressor? Is it a clone of it and H2’s version of it? Does it do clean compression or just coloured compression? Says the adr f760 is great on drums but i would want it have it kore then just drums. Any users out there care to comment? Thanks

This is awesome. I believe this is a joint venture between the Q2 and Acme folks? I have the Compex RI and its fantastic, so I have no doubt it will be great.

Thanks My understanding is that the Compex was more or less the rack version of the compressor in a Helios console. I am sure someone more knowledgeable can chime in on the exact details. In use, the Compex's forte is certainly drums... its in its own league there, but I find a range of uses for mine... acoustic guitar and vocals in particular. I suppose it can be clean-ish, but I certainly don't use it that way. It gets very colorful very quick and thats why I reach for it. It has a nice midrange character in a very rock and roll way.
