Hey Genelec GLM users, riddle me this: I switched over to AES/EBU over the weekend. Trouble is, it seems like the first speaker you plug into takes AES channel 01 (A) and if you go out the AES THRU output XLR, the second speaker takes AES channel 02 (B). Due to where my interface is located, on the right hand side of me, I have enough length to go into the RIGHT speaker first, then out to the LEFT speaker, but GLM doesn't appear to let you change the allocation of which side of the AES cable you can use. I notice there are DIP switches for this, but that is when you aren't running GLM, and I use the volume knob so I'm using it all day. Is there any other way to tell the speakers which channels to use without having to make a long cable? I think I'm out of 3080 at this point. hmm I thought you could just designate whatever speaker you wanted to be which ever one you wanted. That's part of the setup phase. You place them in the grid where they are and identify them as to what they should be. Also thought the dip switches worked no matter what. I'd at least try that. You’d think, right? When I select Edit Layout I’m given the choice to put the speakers back in the unchosen honeycomb area. But there is a difference between what the GLM system thinks is L and R and the digital inputs. I also noticed that the manual gives you an example of how to connect AES in a 2.1 setup, but not a 2.0. It seems like an oversight. The dip switches for me didn’t work so long as GLM was running. It’s not a big deal to re-cable, just something they should’ve thought of. Currently, I have the monitor outputs in Pro Tools reversed in the Monitor section, which is a fine temp fix.

I've got some 8381a on the way for the studio I work at. So that's awesome. Oh, my word. Now that is what I call a monitor, they weigh 152KG's each and start at 20Hz.. That's insane.
It peaked my interest straight away so I looked at the price and after a loose conversion they're, urr $76000.!! Yeah they are no joke! Sound great too. And I'll just say I can't afford them either but my work can so that'll be fun! hmm I thought you could just designate whatever speaker you wanted to be which ever one you wanted. Huh, I never really noticed this. I'm going to mess with it again to see it for myself. Strange. I forgot are you using a genelec sub?

I've always had a sub. Not sure that makes a difference or not.

Currently no sub. That may change. Maybe that's why I've not experienced this. I've always had a sub. Not sure that makes a difference or not. I think you're right, because from what I can see in the manual, when using a 2.1 AES setup, always specifies to start your daisy chain connection to the left speaker first. I don't see anything that is saying, "Just plug it into wherever." But that also the sub can distribute to the "satellites" in home-run format. I would just re-cable it, but I have the Genelec stands where you run the cables up and down the pipe to keep it tidy and it's just something I don't want to upset just now because it means moving furniture.

Found it. It was hiding in plain sight.
To change which channel of the AES connection the speaker uses, in GLM:
Group Preset > Edit > click on speaker in hive and you can select it there.
Not sure why I didn't see this before.

Well, finally found the best use for my 8330As. It is as playback speakers for our corporate townhalls that I am broadcasting. People attending live can hear those remoting in. They are good and loud. Now I can let them go and no longer be driven crazy trying to make their very unnatural sound work with mixing. Bye Felicia.

Hey I once used the smallest Genelec 3 ways for a PT demo with 150 people, made a pretty good small PA. I was just looking at a pair of 1029’s for the TV in the bedroom .
