Hi all, I did a super duper in-depth video comparing the new 305R reverb to one of my studio's plates. I went into making it expecting it to be a quick 10 or 15 minute run-through, but ended up getting way in the thick of it. The video is long and dense, but it's packed with a LOT of good info and tons of listening / comparing. Hope you enjoy! bgrotto - great video Benny. Thanks for taking the time to do it! And great tones BTW. Loving my AS 305R here and find similar uses for it. A Great piece π

bgrotto - great video Benny. Thanks for taking the time to do it! And great tones BTW. Loving my AS 305R here and find similar uses for it. A Great piece π Thanks! I really appreciate all that πΊπ» Great review!! This video makes me want both an XL305 and a real plate. The Audioscape does have a much more natural space sound but I actually thought the Plate sounded awesome on vocals. It really made the vocals sound more epic and gave kind of an 80s vibe that I really enjoyed. I really could see using the AS to add depth and use the Plate when you really want to add character. And Bonus points for using a C715 as a voice over mic!!

And Bonus points for using a C715 as a voice over mic!! Thank you! Both are excellent tools and provide unique colors to play with. In a perfect world (that is, one where I had time to burn, haha), I'd do a series of videos similar to this one, where I 'shoot-out' two pieces of gear I really like. Not to determine a "winner" (which is fucking boring and frankly, every time i see such a video on YouTube I think 'amateur hour'), but to illustrate why a professional engineer might choose one kick-ass and very useful piece of gear over another totally kick-ass and useful piece of gear. So at the end of the day, it's more a peak inside the engineer brain, and less about gear, per se. Sigh. In a perfect world...

If I ever got one of these, I think it would just live in a rack in my machine room and be permanently patched in as an available reverb bus, much in the same way you might do with an EMT 140. The big difference is that it wouldn't take up near as much space as an EMT 140.

Colt is great! We were so happy to have him out at NAMM with us and to team up with him for this giveaway. His love for the XL-305R really sealed the deal

This reverb is absolutely one of the all time greats. Since owning it, I stopped regretting selling my 140 plate reverb.

I'd love to enter the giveaway, but I only saw Reverb, and Spring, what is the third code word?
