That scandisk I linked to comes in 2 and 4 tb. Costco has them for $250 and then a $50 rebate. Yep and it's their best one at USB 3.2. I was addressing thunderbolt speed specifically, which is a difference of 10 to 40.

The last Samsung one is in Canadian prices, the 1 TB is cheap and so is the 2 TB, and much less for you guys buying in US $, shipping and insuring something that light and small would not be expensive.
With the other prices, you might as well just buy a bigger apple internal drive.
Oh the lower price Samsung one says ssd and USB so isn’t TB.

@achase are you running anything off your satellite , doesn’t it have 2 tb ports ? @johnken. I had an email from owc a couple of days ago about sales prices, so I thought that was BF related. Maybe it didn’t include external ssd tb drives: I’ll poke around, but you got a great deal on the Sandisk ! Occasionally the Apollo. Could fit a TB drive there.

So has anybody tried to run any Acustica Acqua or Nebula stuff on one of these new M1 Macs?
I'd be curious if there are any substantial performance gains for Acustica stuff on these new chips, but it would make me reluctant to take the plunge into one of the new Mac Minis if it's the same old problems it's always been with Acustica and Macs.
I'm really wanting to take the plunge into Luna though, and I'm getting impatient waiting for UA to port Luna for PC. I've always been a PC guy, but I might be convinced to try out one of these new M1 Mac Minis for the current price the base model is going for.
I want to try Luna, but I also don't want to give up on Acustica either.

I posted a link above from pro tools expert for silicon approved software, it’s alphabetical or searchable by company name I think.

I posted a link above from pro tools expert for silicon approved software, it’s alphabetical or searchable by company name I think. Well there's what is approved and then there's what actually works in any legitimate fashion. Macs have historically not faired as well as PCs when it comes to Acustica, unfortunately. I was hoping to hear from someone that Acustica is working much better on their new M1 Mac versus the older Mac they used to use. I suspect nothing has changed in that regard, but I'd be all ears if the M1 Macs finally allow more than a few Acustica instances without crashing. To be clear, I think this is likely an Acustica coding problem and not a Mac problem but, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. So I'd like to see if the M1 chips have offered any substantial improvement on Acustica usage.

Is there a particular plug in you are curious about?

Is there a particular plug in you are curious about? No. Just the Acustica Acqua stuff in general. I have a fair number of their Acqua plugins. The problem between Acustica and Mac has never been limited to just certain plugins. The Acustica architecture in general just hasn't historically played nice with Macs, at least when compared to PC.

I could demo an acoustica plug ? I appreciate the offer but demoing Acustica stuff is a little bit of pain in the neck. You will regret offering to do this. . If you really decide you want to demo an Acustica plugin, any of them would probably be fine. Maybe Gold or Pink? But, like I said, it would be a pain to explain how to do all of that and it would take forever for you to download it, etc., Acustica is not what you're used to if you've never tried it before. Honestly, I'm fine with just waiting until someone comes along that already knows and uses Acustica on a Mac. It's really not a rush and I've been talking myself out of buying a new Mini all day. I can always pick one up after the first of the year, if I really decide I need one. Maybe UA will announce PC support for Luna at Winter NAMM. It will have been two years since Luna was released on Mac at that point, so fingers crossed. But I'm still curious to hear from anybody who has already tried Acustica on their new M1.

All good, that is why I don’t use their plug ins: found the install absurdly convoluted! It's way less annoying than it used to be They now have a helper app that handles everything (you used to have to upload license files and download keys and all sorts of annoyances) Having said that, the last few years Acustica have given away pretty good plugins on/around black friday so you might want to wait to see if they repeat this year, then you at least won't have to rid your machine of a demo and associated files (although they can be uninstalled using the Aquarius program too) As far as CPU, Mac AAX is the absolute worst performing install of Acustica stuff - it's gotten better too but it's definitely something 'wrong' with their coding. Like if you put 11 instances of a plugin in a Pro Tools session, it works great and uses a reasonable amount of CPU (high but doable) but adding a 12th instance causes the cores to redline at 100 and all audio to cut out. VST on Mac works better and as mentioned, PC even better. I've heard using them in Reaper on a PC is the best as far as performance. I did a test in Pro Tools using BlueCat Patchwork to host the VST in Pro Tools and even that ran better than the AAX. I'd be curious about the M1 as they also had an issue where their plugs ran better on Intel i7,9 etc. vs. the enterprise chips used in MacPros for "reasons"

So - this is interesting. EVERYTHING is snappy as hell...but Pro Tools render is no faster than my 2012.
