CAPI BT50 or LC EQs LH95 EQ
LA3A compressor, a lot of clones out there. Audioscape and Serpent's are probably the best.

So many can work well so you'll likely get many great recommendations, and most will likely work well on other sources too.
I'm partial to LA3A on both electric (especially clean) and acoustic. The ones I use have the HF Emphasis control moved to the front which I find is a great bonus.
1176s are classics for a reason on guitars as well. A bit more bite to them but they certainly can be set to be less than aggressive. Dbx160x is a solid choice for much less coin.

So many options..
For eq id like as a minimum.. High pass Low band centered around 200 Mid band centered around 3k High band shelf
Pretty much what the bt50 offers or the jlmfreq500
Compressor something with low a ratio number.

Comp : Locomotive Weight Tank Comp. Killer. Especially for electrics.
Comp : a good LA3a. Great for electrics & acoustics. New I'd look to Audiocape. Old ones are good but too $$$$$. If you can find a Serpent SA3a, you're also in the sweet spot.
EQ : for me it always comes back to API. A dirtier inductor EQ is good as well.

Comp: LA3a for all guitar applications, even works for bass. But a real one is too expensive, you say? No problem. Enter the dragon. The audioscape D3a or single version for 500, the V3a Where I one find this, you ask? Dual channel for under $1000 a channel: CLick HERE!Single channel for only $699!! If you have a 500 series chassis: CLICK ME INSTEAD!Why this guy sounds like a shill or evangelist for the company you say. Guilty. And not one person has ever complained yet.

Love my UA LA-3A (hardware) for electric guitars. For acoustics, try a Pye. I have a clone, but apparently, the Waves Kramer Pye is pretty good too.

Golden Age Comp 3A. Sounds great, very affordable, looks the part too. I haven't done a direct comparison between the GAP and the original UA, but I'm in agreement that the GAP is a good sounding unit, especially for the price.

LA3A or a modernized LA4 of course for leads and cleans. Build or buy a Federal 864 if you’re a hardware tube tone piece psycho for distorted guitars.

I don't ever compress electric guitars, once in a blue moon maybe, but for EQ I favor the API 550A. Or something as similar as you can get to that.
An alternative would be a good SSL channel, those can work marvels, too.

Dang, since I only have plug-ins, I've used the CLA 1073 for guitars. I've tried many others, and usually the CLA plugs are last on my list, but for guitars, it's good. But now you guys have got me thinking I'm missing something by not using an La3a, so now I'll have to investigate.

If anyone's shopping LA3A plugins, the Black Rooster VLA-3A is exceptional, in my humble opinion.

Golden Age Comp 3A. Sounds great, very affordable, looks the part too. The 3A is popping up a lot on this thread. Lately I've been loving the Fuse 3A plugin, and when I like something that much it of course leads me to investigate the hardware! I too wondered about the Golden Age 3A but know that some of their products can be in the "entry level" category of outboard gear. Anyone here have an opinion of how the Golden Age stacks up against the original? Or the AudioScape 3A? Are there other 3As out there worth investigating?

I haven't used an original lately, only at another studio and that was a long time ago. All I can say is that my pair of Golden Age Comp 3A can hold its own against my most expensive compressors. I never feel I'm using a lesser product when I use them. They do what they are supposed to do, the compression action is good and the sound is good.

Need to get me an AS 3a.
I like my CAPI BT50 on everything. Warren Huart is into the DRS/Ascent EQ stuff. They are gyratory I think. I have 6 channels of them. I haven't used them a ton but they are sweet gentle EQs.
I'm shooting for 8 bt50s, though.
