Huh.. I tried to check it out right now, lots of people apologizing yet he’s allowed to keep being an ass? And somehow all references to RGO are scrubbed? And what is still up there:. RGO is a right wing site. WTF???!!!!! Literally NO POLITICS is the rule! Their rule: no mentioning other sites.. Hmmmmmmmm I don't think that exactly their rule. It's more like "No mentioning sites that have somehow offended Jules or who are selling things commercially without buying advertising.
I believe that a certain type of assholicism is actually ENCOURAGED by GS because certain types of controvery boost attendance and Jules is all about the numbers.
This is not intended in any real negative way, it's just how he chooses to run his business - and more than any other audio forum I know, GS is a busness first. Seems to work for him, I guess....

GS filters out the text string "realgearonline" if you type that into a post it will turn into "**************" it's like a curse word.

This site is great. Even the name is not embarrassing if someone walks into my office and sees my screen! Anybody who walks into my office and is offended by something on my screen(s) doesn't belong in my office. |

What? John’s one of the nicer guys around. Here we can have hot takes and post without getting crucified. A few guys including mrholmes posted about old timer being great a while back. It still is and saved my ass twice in the last two days after I bought it full price. It brings the density and width without being thick, diffuse, reedy, or uncontrollable. |

It’s this catch all perjorative that is cowardly and ignorant. After he broke the rules here multiple times, I still allowed him to stay - but I’m a racist. Ok. There is a no politics rule on this forum to avoid this kind of bullshit…but I’m going to be less hesitant to ban people that bring that kind of negativity. Thank you, Johnkenn. Actually Oldtimer was introduced to me by BK back in the days on GS pointing it out as one rare exception in plug in land. (12 yrs ago?)
Without BK PMing me I may never would have seen Oldtimer.
Thanks too you for pointing out on Fuse Labs and Black Rooster. Today we had the LA3A vs the real deal, and it really did not make a big difference anymore, except minor things which belong in the taste land.
Its home recording heaven and I don't want to waste more time... Many modern plugs are awesome.

Since I found this site, I hardly ever go to other fora/forums unless for something specific like info search on a particular piece of gear (all taken with a liberal pinch of salt of course!)
So, keep doin' what you're doin'. Also, ignoring this type of attention seeker is sometimes the exact medicine the need.

I see how it is, trying to drag us back into politics SMH  But in all seriousness, f*ck all that noise. I didn't see the posts before they all got cleaned up, and I'm glad I didn't. I would have been drawn into various bullshittery. I think we largely do a good job of self-policing around here and I'm thankful for it. As javamad points out, the best approach to attention-seekers is to deprive them of what they crave. Also, OldTimer is awesome. I forgot about it for a few years and then, like a year ago, went and reinstalled it and, sure enough, still sounds great. See? The natural bent of this place is to talk about gear. "Emergent behavior" as a the scientists would call it... |

About 15 years ago I was laying in a hospital bed trying to get on GS via WiFi, couldn’t do it their filters though I was trying to log into a porn site! Had to use cellphone data via a flip phone. |

It all happened when Roger Foote went off the rails - bashing one side of the US political system (I won't say which) with incredible rage and hate. When I tried to say there were great people on both sides of the spectrum, he went off on me. Saying I was ...eh, don't remember, but it was offensive. And the other 2 guys stirring it up - especially toledo are known pot stirrers if you've ever seen them post. @johnkenn - I wouldn't worry about it too much. It is QUITE obvious that everything that was said was said maliciously with an intent to smear by a couple of known crackpots. At least the POJ and Toledo guys - who both complained of being banned. Hell, I told them I'd been banned at least twice, and now I'm an upstanding member. LOL...at least I think so.....  Roger....that's a sad one for me. I'm afraid that he's had a bad situation happen in his life and his experience and hyper exposure and belief of certain media outlets has poisoned his rational thought. His posts were not anti-RGO per se - just anti 50% + ish of the US population. |

Most of you know I’m conservative (which per GS makes me a white nationalist Nazi fascist Satan worshipper) - but I would say the lean of the membership is probably even more left here…I would absolutely stand for your freedom to believe and say exactly what you want in the public sector…but this is a private pro audio forum, so we will all leave our politics at the door for the good of all our sanity.

Left, right, good people are good people and assholes are just that.
It’s a shame that portion of life gets in the way of certain folks being civil towards one another.

Being probably the leftist of the old guard around here I do find it kind of funny how even if politics creeps in to the conversation a bit some of the guys I get along with the best here are pretty much my politically the other side of the coin from me. I have always had friends all over the political spectrum. I miss the old days in Madison sitting in a bar with Tommy Thompson Republican governor & future Bush cabinet member as well as the head of NORMAL and Planned Parenthood. We all got along because that was the only way things got done. It was also my neighborhood bar and there after work bar ( I lived less than a block from the Capital). Sure Cafe Moo Mar was fun, but after a day of dealing with musicians AE’s and producers Butch Vig and the Gang were the last people I wanted to run into! Now trying to find some comic relief in this as my wife will remind you, white Nationalist while not my favorite people are not all bad, I mean it was a KKK leader from Beloit who broke Geraldo’s nose! Who on either side hasn’t wanted to punch Geraldo? |

Conservative gear opinions will get you taken down there too. Try expressing reservations about dsp speakers, plate amps, metal domes, Rode mics, clones, and bad dsp that’s worse than Sonnox and Waves stuff from the 90s. You’ll get chewed out by people who say they use them all the time or some modern recording that sounds awful used a Rode or an AT.

I've always thought that the conservative side of the plugin question was those who want the plugin to sound (and behave) EXACTLY like the real thing...!.....
