I just got my tube-core's today, paid an extra $100.00 for a matched pair that could be used as a mastering comp. I had the 3U version so it'll be interested to see the differences.. From what I've heard there's not much in it vs. the rackmount but anyway I'll do some experiments over the next week or so. I've read that IGS started making their own custom transformers in the tubecore last year after supply chain issues and the reviews since then is that they were were as good if not slightly better. I've been considering the tubecore units, so I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on why you decided to move on from the 3U version and how the 500's compare sonically if and when you have the time. Thanks, Mike Originals had a BigA$$ sowter inside (on output) w/ a carnhill on input... so not sure you can get much better than that. Although I'm sure the marketing dept. may disagree But knowing IGS, I bet they are just as tasty!

Without being able to hear clips or the carnhill/sowter version next to the custom version first hand, it's something I've wondered about for sure.

I few folks have been testing the IGS transformers at groupdiy, and early reports are pretty impressive. Not saying they're better in this case, put looks like they're making some quality iron.

Hi Folks, A while back, I started a thread about buying a vari-mu compressor for tracking purposes. I ended up with the IGS Tubecore 500, and I've been very satisfied with the purchase. Now I'm in the market for a vari mu mix bus compressor. I've got a few candidates: Manley Vari Mu Gyraf Gyratec X Thermionic Phoenix IGS Tubecore 3U Tegeler HTC I'd love to hear of anyone's experiences with any of these units. Thanks, Craig Hi Graig, I use a Phoenix Mastering Plus on my stereo bus and I can recommend it being worthy of a demo. My stereo bus chain is an RMS 755 (VCA comp) > Phoenix MP > The Swift EQ > HEDD 192 A/D (with FX) The VCA gives me some micro dynamics and rhythmic envelope (excitement) the Phoenix MP gives the mix some size and a 3D quality the Swift adds the weight and gloss and even then I can't resist dialling in some HEDD Pentode and Tape FX as they're so unique in what they add. The Phoenix really does sound very BIG and 3D which suits my music. The Phoenix is also one the THE best vocal and bass tracking compressors I've ever used!
