People know there are new Luna announcements tomorrow right, the 27th was just about the pedals, not everything UA has up its sleeve?

I’m so disappointed that I might take a break from UAD all together. I might even try some different interfaces, see what’s out there...hardware inserts and compensation, I know, I know...they are working against hardware, they want plugins that emulate hardware...ugh I guess the hybrid folks that are doing inserts will have to wait a while, but its likely it will come. I don't think they are working "against" hardware but are placing them selves as a real companion. Look at all the endorsers and HW history they push. That their customers have and aspire to HW is a good think because they go part way to satisfying the itch... just my thoughts on that one... I was hybrid ..but summing out from buses and doing parallel compression once OTB so I have no compensation issues (except the shitty compensation I get from clients ha ha) I think LUNA is so good though that I have decided to go ITB and have just sold my summing rig (RND 5060). That has left a rather large hole in my desk and I feel I need some faders for clients to see, so a control surface works for me. I would rather a UA LUNA controller though because I am sure they would build something aesthetically vibey (Faderport 16 looks like my best bet but gawd its awful looking) and of course the integration would be better

You think Luna would be the primary concern on the agenda, however they haven’t started charging for it yet. I’m sure that will be next. The guitar pedals were just a way to try and pick up more revenue, maybe sales are down a bit? Maybe? The chip issue with the fire changing directions, and due to the current Covid situation? Not sure really, just speculating. I know right now some people have an extra boost of revenue until that runs out. I’m not a hater, just disappointed in this pedal thing. Just a crazy year...and to think I wrote a song called “Happy 2020” before Covid was here. Now I guess you could say it’s a parody song. Lol

Connect the dots, they must have taken a big rev drop or forecasted one, so increased Apollo price,( Heritage bundles ) and released the pedals, many comment on their high price point?
I remember buying new boss pedals for $50 cdn, the UA ones are like $500 Cdn landed, never going to happen here.

The market for this seems like 12-17 year olds of mid-to-upper class families.

I’m pretty confused by this one.
I think everyone is expecting a control surface every time they have a “big announcement!”
When are they gonna get around to it?!

Here is some interesting insights and speculations about where UA may be going with its new “ Emperor” :
From UA Forum:
CaptainHook's Avatar CaptainHook said: 35 Minutes Ago Reading more tea leaves / wild speculation / wishing thinking ?
What we know:
• The original "teaser" images were tagged "Emperor" in a folder structure implying a product or product category of such name • We saw on the 2nd stream an accidental Slack window for a channel referring to "Emperor Apps" • Drew has said the pedals are NOT sharc based • Porting was required to get the existing algo's used on to new platform • James mentioned 'next level processor' and also 8x oversampling (after almost saying running at 192K but corrected himself before finishing)
Speculation:
• "Emperor" is the new development platform / processor used in the pedals (potentially just internal code name or not) - maybe it was just the code name for the pedal line but I guess I'm hoping its "more" 😝 • Could have been plans for new "UAD3" interfaces/convertors for namm built on Emperor but the AKM fire disrupted those plans and/or: • Decision made that the pedals are good way to start porting and developing algo's (which includes increased oversampling) over to this new Emperor processor/platform before being able to get most of the library onto the platform and doing new interfaces etc (which would obviously affected by AKM fire anyway) • Moving away from sharcs and the work required to do so would explain how long UAD2 has lasted without an update - especially if decision was made that the work required to go to new versions of sharc's didn't make long term sense over choosing this non-sharc based platform.
I could totally be wrong on all of it. 😆”

So you need an Apollo and computer for this to work? Or is this a real pedal you plug your guitar into, then plug intto a real amp, then record w/ a real mic?

Using KCat speculation,
What would you guys like to see from UAD 3?

a control surface and moving to more powerful chips must really be most people’s priorities ?

UAD 3 would have to do what UAD 1 and 2 did years ago. Way surpass the other digital plugins out there. Native stuff and computers have come a long way and it’s hard to justify the price of UA plugins these days. If UAD3 could get that much closer to “analog”, I’d jump back in for sure!

I was thing how the new m1 chip can run larger logic sessions with 1,000 plugs and how cpu left over.
Can you imagine how many of the older sharc chips it would take to do that?
My octo and 10 plugs cost $2 grand the m1 mini about half that .
Maybe uad2 is ripe for change ?

The DSP is pitiful in terms of cost vs power, compared to spending that same exact money on a better computer to begin with. It's a big reason I froze my spending on UAD plugins a while back.
You can do the tests yourself, setup a test DAW session and see how many instances you can get of a UAD vs a similar or same native plugin before the audio starts dropping out. It doesn't paint a pretty picture of the UAD-2 SHARC technology.

It’s not the sharc technology, just that UA, so far, has refused to use new sharc chips, that have higher processing capacity.
It seems, the pedals are running on something newer

Porting huge libraries of code to a new platform takes lots of engineers and engineers cost lots of money. I’m sure it’s a constant tug-of-war for what to allocate resources to. I’m pulling for UA to thrive. I think they’re a great company making cool stuff and I’d love to see LUNA mature into an actual, fully viable DAW.

It seems, the pedals are running on something newer I was surprised when they released the X line of Apollos, that they didn't change the chip, instead just added a couple more. Seem like they really are tied to that thing, like ragan said, in terms of having to re-code everything in computer language to something else, if they switch, like they did with the guitar pedals. I am not a business person or a computer programmer, and I don't hate UA, but they also have lost me a little bit. To be positive, some of their plugins are some of the best I've heard, and the interfaces "just work," which is a huge feather in the cap, compared to many other brands.

Best year in the company's history. And we have every intention of making LUNA a place where users will want to create and mix music. We previewed a bit, but that's not all we have coming and when combined with UA-Bock mics, 2021 is gonna be great!

I am not a scammer and I don’t not appreciate the underhanded passive aggressive disrespect I have seen your catty responses to fellow forum members & long time Apollo first adopters as myself. Show some professionalism if you are going to represent UAD’s name.
