Update post;
OK, here's the deal, remember, this is semi DIY
(this does not include the 21" square, 1/4" back board, you need to get that at your local depot/lowes, it'll cost $5, and they'll usually cut it to size for free, or $2 or something?, you can get that when you buy your glue and mounting hardware)
here's what i provide in the kit
7= 8'x 1 3/4"cedar sticks at $6+ tax=$45.00
Shipping at 25lbs will be about $30.00
Full accounting of my time and expenditures, I need to drive 30 mile round trip to woodyard, pick out the nicer sticks, 14" mitre saw to size on the order of 144 cuts per order, use my electricity, buy a new chop blade, buy boxes, packing tape, labels, pack, address and drive to drop ship.
I'll put a printable layout and some basic directions for assembly post on this thread, it should be a very easy assembly, look and smell great!
I think all things considered, $125.00 an order seems like it'll keep me from spending my own $, and not much more.
if you're a go on this, pm me, and i'll give you my paypal account, and you can use the "I'm sending money to family or friends" option, not goods and services, i'm not an acoustics business, and this is a non profit event. It'll save fee's, and i wont have to answer to the taxman.
let me know what you think Fella's
T
btw, you could always go this more $ route, but in all honesty, it'll look and smell like poop next to a real cedar rig IMO... www.fullcompass.com/product/285977.html?utm_source=googleps&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=googleps&gclid=COu-kp38iL4CFcuVfgod_YgApQ

Ok fella's, for some time now, a lot of guys have been looking to acquire Skyline style diffusors only to find out they are inordinately expensive. Others have tried to build their own BBC style 2D QRD diffusers DIY via PME or Tapeop versions , some successfully, some not so much...lol!(see diy diffuser thread for explanation 8)
The big problem is, you need at the very least a table saw and mitre saw to get the job done cleanly, It is a lot of work and quite dangerous to cut all the pieces, plus a lot of us don't have these tools and really cant justify purchasing them for a one off build. I on the other hand, do have these tools(i'm a general construction contractor in Socal).
I am thinking of offering an assembly only kit for guys to buy? They would include all the wood blocks in their entirety, pre cut to length, a masonite back board to glue your blocks to, and a guide sheet to lay your blocks out in the intended order(or maybe i'll put a printable version here?). I will ship these in a box to your address, they weigh approximately 24lbs, and would be pretty difficult to damage in shipping considering they are blocks of douglas fir wood lol, upon arrival, U putem together, and thats it.
I will also put together a short "how to" video on youtube to assist with the assembly, if we can get enough guys interested, then commited, it'd be worth doing i think?
I can tell you with certainty, these diffusers do something special to a space for recording, i often set mine up around me when i play acoustic guitar even if i'm not recording, they just add sparkle to the air.
The price is still to be determined, i'd imagine under $100usd(still have to figure a lot out), i'd like to provide true 2"x2" block diffusers(2x2 actually means 1 1/2"x 1 1/2" to 1 5/8" in the real world), I may special order the true 2"x2" blocks, but i have to warrant the interest first.
here are a few pics from the DIY thread. The units on the rolling stand are 2 units stacked. Here are some links to diy pages spoken of earlier www.pmerecords.com/Diffusor.cfm tapeop.com/articles/83/diy-diffusors/
They call them 2x2, but they are certainly 1.5x 1.5 inches. If you have any questions, please ask, i am not a certified acoustician, but i know enough to get myself in trouble, and i'll do my best to answer them.
This is the BBC QRD layout, you will need to get a 1/4" thick back board cut at the Depot 21"x21", and wood glue. I like to use a polyurethane adhesive like this www.architecturaldepot.com/1390595.html?gclid=CMjqiZuLi74CFRSPfgodCGwAQA , it doesnt set as fast as traditional glue, it gives u more working time, and once it sets, it sets!
The BBC QRD layout is this, you will use this as a guide, or better still, layout markings on the backboard with a tape measure, and straight edge(that is what i do). It is also helpful to have a very flat surface up against a very straight vertical surface, like a cabinet side or wall that u can push the bottom plate/blocks against as a continuing alignment aid while constructing. Don't hesitate to ask questions if you want, stay tuned, more to come 8)
